Objective and Summary:
At ELM, the ASC Registered Nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect provision of safe and professional nursing care of the patient throughout all stages of the Legacy Center for Spinal Surgery visit. This is accomplished through rigorous evaluations and documentation of all care provided to patients within the Perioperative and outpatient environments as directed by Physician orders, ASC policies, processes, and procedures. This role reports to the ASC Director.
Essential Functions:

Performs perioperative roles and duties. Including, Pre-Operative, OR Circulator, and PACU Roles

Carries out physician orders

Follows and completes tasks assigned by Clinical Director

Supports surgical and nonsurgical procedures for multiple providers that operate at the ASC.

Supports and maintains a safe patient care environment

Recognizes situations (patient, staff, visitor, and physician) and significant assessment findings that require verbal or written communication and follow through to the appropriate people

Completes and complies with medication management, administration, and security standards

Follows established universal precautions in the use of PPE and other safety equipment
-
Complies with applicable ASC governing body standards and requirements. Including all Federal, State, and local agencies and organizations that regulate staff and patient safety and care
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Pre-Operative Role:
Assess patients medical condition, vital signs, pain, level of consciousness, pre-op labs, and other symptoms or concerns that require further provider evaluation or treatment
Obtains patients medical history, medications, allergies, reactions, and consents
Prepares patients for planned procedures
Administers preoperative medications per provider orders
Restocks Pre-operative area
Other duties may be assigned

OR Circulator:
Ensures Operating Rooms are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition
Assists team with gathering supplies, equipment, opening trays, conducting counts, and dispensing medications prior to and during procedures as needed
Prepares room for procedures, assists team with room turnover between procedures
Assists with safe patient transport and positioning
Verifies patient history, allergies, timeout, and document procedure along with other required charting sections.
Assists OR team with any intraoperative needs
Administers intraoperative medications per provider orders
Restocks intraoperative area
Other duties may be assigned

PACU Role:
Verifies patient history, allergies, timeout, and document PACU process along with other required charting sections.
Assesses and monitor patient frequently during PACU stay for changes that require further provider evaluation or treatment
Updates patient family on patient status and estimated discharge time and plan
Provides a Safe environment for patient recovery
Provides discharge instructions, resources, and education
Administers PACU medications per provider orders
Restocks PACU area
Other duties may be assigned

All Roles:
Provides safe, individualized patient care specific to the surgery/procedure being performed throughout the ASC visit
Starts and maintains IV as required
Supports ASC team and communicates with provider as needed
Completes thorough and accurate handoff reports where necessary
Completes Preoperative and Postoperative patient calls
Purposefully conducts all aspects of job in an ethical manner in support of the organization’s commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity
Supervises non-licensed personnel as assigned
Carries out physician orders
Creates and maintains an atmosphere with a positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility
Facilitates close working relationship with the patient, their family, supporting departments, etc., to adequately plan for patient care
Collaborates with appropriate disciplines in developing coordinated outcomes and interventions
Collects, interpret, and report lab values to providers
Serves as a clinical liaison
Participates in identifying and developing the performance improvement focus and criteria Supports the mission, vision, and core values of the organization
Interacts with team members regarding patient progress
Attends and participates in continuing education programs
Utilizes safe, best practices and controls to protect patients, self, and team from unnecessary risks and exposures

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of equipment, instrumentation, and supplies required to perform specific responsibilities within skill set and ASC setting

Knowledge of supplemental oxygen, suction, and airway management

Ability to understand and comply with HIPAA rules and regulations and patient Rights and Responsibilities

Ability to follow established universal precautions in the use of PPE and other safety equipment

Ability to understand and adhere to the Professional Code of Conduct and demonstrate professional accountability
Qualifications & Requirements:
Graduate of an Accredited Nursing Program. BSN preferred

Current, active, and unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the State of Georgia
-
Prior Operating Room or PACU experience required (within 2 years)

BLS and ACLS certified

Must meet pre-employment requirements and maintain all applicable state and job-related guidelines for background screening. Depending on state-specific requirements, this may include drug testing, health screening, CPR/Basic First Aid, and license/credential verifications.

COVID vaccination is required for all employees who are hired to work in an on-site setting in the ASC, and who will be working directly with our patient population, or as indicated. An exemptio
