What are the responsibilities and job description for the Founding Mobile Engineer (ios) position at Elly?
About the Role
Our client Jetty is building the first AI functional health doctor and coach, starting with the hardest use case: people living with chronic illness. As our Founding Mobile Engineer (iOS), you'll own the entire Jetty mobile experience - a live product already in the hands of real users - and shape it into something that feels clear, calm, and trustworthy even when the underlying health data is messy, sensitive, and deeply personal. This is our first full-time mobile engineering hire, which means you won't just write code - you'll help define how Jetty builds.
What You'll Do
- Own the mobile product end-to-end - design, build, and ship user-facing features across the full Jetty iOS app, from concept to production
- Transform complex inputs into trustworthy experiences — translate voice, text, passive health signals, and AI-generated outputs into UI flows that feel intuitive and reliable
- Set the bar for mobile craft - take direct ownership of performance, reliability, and accessibility across the app
- Integrate AI thoughtfully — embed AI-driven insights and health summaries into the product while handling uncertainty, latency, and failure states in ways that maintain user trust
- Instrument and iterate — implement mobile analytics across key events, flows, and retention signals to close the feedback loop and improve the product quickly
- Shape product and architecture decisions — partner directly with Design, Backend, and AI leadership to influence how the product evolves and establish the technical foundations for the mobile codebase
What You'll Bring
Required:
- 2–5 years of experience building and shipping mobile apps, ideally in a startup or fast-moving product environment
- Strong iOS fundamentals (Swift, UIKit and/or SwiftUI) with a clear track record of owning features from idea to launch
- Product instincts that go beyond screens — you think in flows, states, and edge cases, and you catch the gaps before users do
- Architectural judgment to make pragmatic tradeoffs: you know when to optimize for speed and when to invest in maintainability
- Comfort navigating ambiguity — you can pick up a loosely defined problem, make sound decisions with incomplete information, and ship something solid
- A genuine high bar for craft — you notice the small details that make a product feel polished and trustworthy, and you hold yourself to them
Nice to Have:
- Android experience (Kotlin / Jetpack Compose) or prior cross-platform development
- Experience with design systems or reusable component libraries
- Hands-on experience with audio/voice input, background processing, push notifications, or real-time UX patterns
- Prior work in a privacy-sensitive domain — health, finance, or similar — where data handling and user trust carry real weight
Why Join Jetty
- You'll work on something that matters — chronic illness affects hundreds of millions of people, and most health tools fail them. You'll build something designed from the ground up to actually help.
- You're not joining a team — you're helping build one — as the first full-time mobile hire, you'll have real influence over technical culture, tooling choices, and how the engineering team scales
- You'll work directly with the founding team — a former senior AI leader from Palantir and a former venture investor from NEA, backed by the top seed investor in NYC and $2M in funding
- The product is live, not theoretical — you'll be shipping to real users from day one, with immediate feedback loops and tangible impact
- Competitive salary and meaningful equity — we're early enough that your ownership stake actually means something
