Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary: Plans and organizes maintenance schedules and programs for the entire Maintenance Department of the institution by regularly reviewing work order requests, discussion with assistants and inspections of various areas of the institution, to provide a safe, secure, and humane facility. Specifies and requisitions an inventory or supplies to ensure that required parts and materials are available to meet the requirements of the institution.
Job Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: Plans and estimates cost of renovation and new construction projects, by review and inspection of existing facilities and review of projected requirements of the institution. Coordinates with outside architects and engineers in the design of renovation and new construction projects by preparing and presenting program statements and reviewing the drawings and specifications presented by outside architects and engineers, to assure the project will meet the institution’s requirements.
Prepares the operational budget for the Facility Construction and Maintenance, to secure sufficient funding to carry out construction and maintenance operations of the institution by regular review of prior and present requirements of the institution. Implements orders, directives, policies and procedures while managing staff and physical plant resources through supervision of seven Facilities Maintenance Supervisors and one Electronics Technician. Indirectly supervises and oversees the work of 25 skilled construction and maintenance personnel and inmate workers to assure that the maintenance and construction requirements of the institution are completed on schedule and within budget limitations.

Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED
Licensing & Certification: Valid driver’s license. Journey/advanced level experience in the building mechanical trades and leadership ability at the supervisory level.
Minimum Qualifications: Five years of experience in building trades or mechanical building trades. Education may be substituted for experience as determined by the agency.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of the principles and procedures used in directing and managing institutional physical plants according to their design, layout, and service demands. Knowledge of all principles, methods, practices, equipment, and tools used in the maintenance ad repair of mechanical equipment and systems, as well as building structures and related properties. Ability to assess the needs for repairs or preventive maintenance of physical plant facilities and to develop plans for these projects. Ability to develop, plan and implement work schedules and to coordinate, direct, and evaluate the work performed by subordinate staff members.

Selection Process: Applicants selected for an interview will be evaluated by an interview panel using performance/behavior-based interview questions. The interview panel will make recommendations to the Warden for final approval. A second interview may be conducted. Applicants will be subject to background check and criminal history investigation; must pass a drug screen and a TB test unless promoting, transferring, or demoting from another safety sensitive position within the same agency; and possess a valid Driver’s License.
