Job Overview

Responsibilities
- Review construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to accurately interpret project scope and material requirements.
- Utilize estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, and other construction management tools to develop detailed cost estimates.
- Prepare comprehensive bid proposals by calculating material costs, labor costs, equipment needs, and subcontractor quotes.
- Conduct thorough quantity take-offs from blueprints and technical drawings to determine precise material quantities.
- Manage project budgets by monitoring costs, controlling expenses, and implementing effective cost management strategies throughout the estimating process.
- Negotiate with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to secure competitive pricing while maintaining quality standards.
- Collaborate with project managers and clients to review contracts, scope changes, and project timelines ensuring accurate pricing adjustments.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, bid documents, and correspondence using spreadsheets and construction software platforms like Xactimate.
- Assist in managing project schedules by aligning estimates with project milestones and resource planning.
- Support project management teams during construction phases by providing cost control insights and updating estimates as needed.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in heavy civil construction estimating, specifically within road or highway projects.
- Strong proficiency with estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Xactimate, and construction management software.
- Excellent blueprint reading skills coupled with the ability to interpret technical drawings accurately.
- Solid understanding of construction industry practices including cost control, material estimation, contract review, and project budgeting.
- Skilled in negotiation with vendors and subcontractors to achieve favorable terms without compromising quality or safety standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) for data analysis and report generation.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail under tight deadlines.
- Construction site experience is highly desirable for better understanding of field conditions impacting estimates.
- Strong communication skills for effective client interaction and team collaboration.
- Knowledge of construction laws, contracts, and safety regulations relevant to heavy civil projects is preferred.
