Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join our accounting team. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills, a solid understanding of accounting rules and regulations, and experience with various accounting software platforms. This role involves managing financial records, preparing reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and supporting financial analysis to aid strategic decision-making. Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with accounting rules and regulatory requirements
- Manage general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliation
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections
- Conduct bank reconciliations and cash flow analysis to monitor financial health
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
- Ensure compliance with SOX controls and other regulatory reporting standards
- Maintain accurate records using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms
- Support review and research processes through detailed documentation and data preparation
- Perform tax-related tasks including preparation of tax filings and experience with tax concepts is a plus
- Collaborate with teams on financial report writing, interpretation of financial data, and management reporting
- Mentor junior staff or interns in accounting procedures and best practices
- Stay updated on securities law, nonprofit accounting standards (such as LIHTC), governmental accounting regulations, and other relevant legal frameworks
Qualifications
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification is preferred
- Proven experience in corporate accounting, public accounting, or nonprofit accounting environments
- Strong knowledge of accounting rules and regulations, accrual and cash basis accounting, double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits
- Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft or similar tools
- Experience with financial analysis, financial report writing & interpretation, budgeting & forecasting
- Familiarity with SOX compliance requirements and regulatory reporting standards
- Knowledge of securities law, wills & estate law is advantageous but not required
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Strong analytical skills combined with sound financial acumen and critical thinking abilities
- Effective communication skills for preparing reports and mentoring team members
