Overview & Responsibilities The Production Planner / Scheduler is responsible for developing, executing, and maintaining the production schedule for a manufacturing facility to ensure on-time delivery while optimizing resource utilization. Job Description: The Production Planner/Scheduler plays a critical role in the manufacturing process by translating customer orders and forecasts into a detailed production plan. This involves analyzing capacity, material availability, and lead times to create an efficient and realistic schedule that meets production targets, minimizes downtime, and controls inventory levels. Key Responsibilities: Production Planning & Scheduling: Analyze and manage production capacity, including labor, equipment, and machine time, to level-load production and identify potential bottlenecks. Coordinate with Sales, Procurement, and Operations to ensure alignment on production priorities, material availability, and delivery commitments. Release and manage work orders, job travelers/work scopes to the production floor, ensuring all necessary documentation is complete and accurate. Prepare and maintain visual work list to assist shop floor on prioritizing of machining/assembly activities. Act as primary reference point for department ensuring continued flow of information regarding project status and completion dates. Communicates capacity constraints and availability., taking necessary action with Production Control Manager and Area Manager (overtime, shifts, outsourcing) to maintain schedule. Inventory & Material Management: Monitor and adjust the production schedule based on material shortages or supply chain disruptions. Work closely with the Procurement team to manage optimal inventory levels for raw materials and finished goods, balancing carrying costs with production needs. Performance & Continuous Improvement: Measure and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as Schedule Adherence, On-Time Delivery (OTD), and production efficiency. Identify opportunities for process improvement within the planning and scheduling function to reduce lead times and improve throughput. Participate in cross-functional meetings to review production status, resolve scheduling conflicts, and address performance issues. Qualifications / Experience: Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field is a plus Experience: 5 plus years of experience in production planning, scheduling, inventory control, or a related role within a manufacturing environment. Experience in engineered-to-order manufacturing is a plus Understanding of work scope structure, standard hours, durations, lead times, key metrics such as utilization, efficiency and productivity. Demonstrated understanding of capacity management / theory of constraints concepts in a manufacturing production environment. Ability to read and comprehend mechanical and geometric drawings, along with an understanding of design, material and process specifications. Technical Skills: Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Advantage) is mandatory. Strong analytical skills and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting. Certifications (Preferred): Certification from APICS (e.g., CPIM - Certified in Production and Inventory Management) or a similar professional organization is a plus. Desired Skills and Competencies: Detail-Oriented: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in managing complex schedules and data. Problem-Solving: Strong ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve scheduling and material issues under pressure. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration across departments. Time Management: Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge: Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, lean principles, and supply chain dynamics.
