Overview & Responsibilities The primary purpose of this job is to perform inspection functions on raw material, parts and assemblies, assembled units and to assure that material is within prescribed specifications. Primary Areas - Heavy Machining, Fabrication, Pressure Vessel Welding, Rotor, Motor Shop, EP AT Speed Balance, SVP Quick Action & SVP Kit Box and other areas as needed. Tools & Equipment - Various visual, vision, functional, mechanical and electrical inspection equipment, Coordinate Measuring Equipment, NDT equipment for dye penetrant, magnetic particle, simple ultrasonic inspection equipment, hardness testing, etc., material handling equipment, camera and computers as they relate to inspections and procedures described herein. Materials - A variety of raw materials, fabrications, purchased items, partially and finished machined parts, various assemblies, sub-assemblies and castings. Responsibilities: Reads and interprets work orders, assembly and detailed drawings, quality plans, special instructions, inspection, process and material specifications, standard procedure instruction, bill of material, purchase orders, shipping papers, and other miscellaneous procedures and documents as required or directed. Obtains/uses necessary tooling, gaging, fixtures or other inspection tools/equipment and makes set-ups and inspection routines for inspecting raw materials, parts and assemblies for conformance to drawings, specifications or other documented requirements as required by quality plans, route sheets, procedures or as directed. Performs first piece, 100%, final piece, sub and finished assembly inspection or patrols operations following established sampling plan, as directed. Checks and records alignment and clearances of sub-assemblies and assemblies as directed. This includes leak testing. Maintains records as prescribed in procedures including collecting and recording specific data, as directed, for analytical purposes either in manual or electronic format. Identifies, describes and sketches non-conformancies (NCR's) and follows prescribed procedures for contacting other departments and/or supervision in order to control and process such items including obtaining and defining salvage procedures. Documents and identifies to supervisor any irregularities in procedures or problems not covered in the standard procedure, specifications and instructions. Works with customer representatives while witnessing inspection and tests and reviewing documentation. Disassembles, assembles, stamps, grinds and cleans items as related to inspection described herein and in associated procedures. Inspects availability and suitability of items, packaging, crating and loading of out-going material as directed. Operates crane, forklift truck and other material handling equipment as required. Performs non-certified nondestructive examination such as dye penetrant and magnetic particle inspection as directed. Maintains good housekeeping by keeping tools, materials and equipment clean, protected and in proper place. Keeps respective work area clean. Observes all plant and safety rules. May be required to wear portable communication device. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Must be able and willing to work 1st (7am-3pm), 2nd (3pm-11pm) and 3rd (11pm-7am) shifts. Shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to shift realignment. Must be able and willing to work overtime, weekends and holidays.
