Description: Ellington Public Schools is seeking applications from motivated individuals for a second shift full-time custodial opening at Center Elementary School.
Responsibilities: Custodians work to create a clean, orderly, and safe environment by performing a wide variety of cleaning and maintenance activities on buildings. While the majority of the work is completed inside, they also have duties that take place outside like sweeping walkways, mowing lawns, and snow removal duties. Reporting directly to the Head Custodian and the Building Principal, the Custodian works closely with the team of custodians in order to meet the needs of the school community.
Qualifications: Successful candidate must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position with a HS diploma or equivalent. While performing the duties and responsibilities of this position, candidate must be able to sit, walk, stand, and move items as needed. Ability to regularly lift 10 to 25 lbs. and occasionally 50 lbs. if needed. Successful candidate must be able to take direction and work independently. Satisfactory working relationship with staff personnel and public as needed. Be able to plan and organize work schedule, set priorities, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Additionally, the candidate must encompass basic computer skills and able to navigate in Google suite, Microsoft, and spreadsheets. Successful candidate will be required to submit to a state and national criminal history check, as well as a DCF background review.
Compensation: This is a second shift contracted position with benefits. The 2026-2027 hourly starting rate is $23.43. Benefits as provided in the Union agreement (Contract currently in negotiations)
