ICS values integrity, accountability, empathy, and professional growth, fostering an environment where respect and compassion guide every interaction.Position SummaryThe Respiratory Therapist (RT) provides care, supervision, and clinical support to individuals with developmental disabilities in accordance with established procedures and standards.This position combines clinical respiratory care with direct assistance in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), ensuring a supportive and therapeutic environment.Successful RTs demonstrate:Strong organizational and analytical skillsClear communication and problem-solving abilitiesAdherence to state established protocols and regulationsSupervision and Work ExpectationsSupervision:Reports to the RT Supervisor for performance, scheduling, and guidanceReceives day-to-day direction from the Home Administrator and/or Lead RNSchedule:Standard shifts are 12 hours; flexibility is required for overnight, weekends, holidays, and overtime as neededPrimary work location is a residential care facility (assignments may vary)Compliance with state regulations, vaccination requirements, and safety protocols is mandatoryEssential Duties and Responsibilities1. General ResponsibilitiesMaintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment that respects residents’ dignity and rightsDeliver Active Treatment and positive interventions in accordance with ICS standardsUse effective communication, documentation, and time management skillsReport incidents, suspected abuse, or violations of rights immediately to the AdministratorUphold ICS’s mission of holistic, person-centered, and integrated care2. Core Resident Care DutiesA. Daily Living SupportAssist residents with ADLs including lifting, transferring, and mobility supportImplement and monitor Individual Program Plans (IPPs)Apply behavior support and positive intervention strategiesCollaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure cohesive careAct as a resident advocate, safeguarding individual rights and well-beingFacilitate skill-building and independence in daily routinesPromote social, emotional, cognitive, and developmental growth through structured activitiesSupport a hygienic environment through light housekeeping and sanitation dutiesB. Resident EngagementSupport occupational, recreational, vocational, and educational programsEncourage resident participation in community and therapeutic activitiesDisplay empathy and professionalism with residents and familiesDocument progress, participation, and behavior in resident recordsProvide mentorship and onboarding support to new staff membersC. Observation, Documentation & Emergency ResponseObserve, document, and report physical and behavioral changes promptlyRespond effectively to medical or behavioral emergenciesConduct assessments at admission, daily, and as neededSupervise residents under special precautions (elopement, suicide risk, self-injury, etc.)Maintain and monitor emergency medical equipment and suppliesComplete all incident and progress reports accurately and in a timely manner3. Respiratory Care ResponsibilitiesDeliver all respiratory care in compliance with Respiratory Care Board regulationsAdminister respiratory treatments and therapies safely and effectivelyManage oxygen delivery systems and ventilator carePerform airway management and tracheal suctioningInterpret arterial blood gas (ABG) results and initiate interventionsAdminister prescribed medications accurately per protocolCommunicate changes in resident condition to physicians and staff promptlyParticipate in shift handoffs, walking rounds, and interdisciplinary meetingsDocument all treatments, outcomes, and resident responses in records4. Interdisciplinary CollaborationParticipate in the development and review of each resident’s IPPAttend case conferences and care plan reviewsContribute to goal-setting, skill development, and behavioral planningPromote a culture of safety, quality, and compliance across all care activities5. Facility & Environmental SupportPerform light housekeeping, laundry, and personal property organizationInspect fire safety and adaptive equipment routinelyReport and correct safety hazards or equipment malfunctions immediatelySupport infection control and universal precaution procedures6. Training and Professional DevelopmentAttend a minimum of four (4) ICS meetings annuallyComplete required continuing education units (CEUs) to maintain licensureParticipate in mandatory and ongoing training programs for skill enhancementPhysical DemandsThis position requires sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform essential care functions. Duties may include:Standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, and pullingOccasional running, kneeling, or climbingOperating motor vehicles and assistive equipment safelyProlonged computer use or desk-based documentationReasonable accommodations will be provided as required by law.Working ConditionsWork is primarily performed in a residential or assisted care setting.Employees must adhere to all infection control, health, and safety procedures.Potential hazards may include exposure to:Cleaning chemicals and medicationsCommunicable diseases and bloodborne pathogensResidents exhibiting aggressive or self-injurious behaviorsCollaboration and communication with families, coworkers, and partner agencies are essential components of the work environment.Qualifications and EducationHigh School Diploma or equivalent requiredCurrent Respiratory License/Credentials from an accredited body (must be maintained)Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – PreferredCertified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) – PreferredCalifornia Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) LicenseMinimum 1 year of experience in a related role preferredValid driver’s license and clean driving recordProficiency in respiratory care methods, infection control, and regulatory complianceStrong written and verbal communication skillsComputer proficiency and ability to adapt to new software systemsProfessional demeanor, empathy, confidentiality, and teamworkBy applying to this job, you agree to receive periodic text messages from this employer and Homebase about your pending job application.
