Position: Substitute Teacher

Position Overview

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for leading dance classes in the absence of the assigned instructor while maintaining the quality, structure, and expectations of Ellen Alvin Dance Exchange (EADE) programming.

EADE is seeking substitute teachers for the following programs:

• Foundations of Dance (Ages 3–4, 5–6)
• Ballet/Acro (Ages 6–7)
• Jazz/Tap (Ages 6–7)
• Hip Hop (Ages 6–7, 8–9, 10–13)
• Jazz (Ages 8–9, 10–13)
• Pom (Ages 8 )

Position Type: Part-Time

Pay Range: $15.00-$25.00 per hour depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Lead assigned classes following the provided lesson plan or curriculum
• Maintain class structure, pacing, and engagement
• Ensure dancer safety and proper technique standards
• Take attendance and complete all required administrative tasks
• Communicate professionally with students, parents, and staff
• Represent EADE with professionalism and consistency

Qualifications

• Demonstrated advanced training and proficiency in the dance style(s) they are assigned to teach
• Strong understanding of technical foundations, terminology, and proper execution within each assigned style
• Proven ability to teach and manage the specific age group(s) they are assigned, using age-appropriate instruction and communication
• Prior experience leading or assisting dance classes independently with confidence and structure
• Ability to quickly learn and implement lesson plans while maintaining EADE’s class expectations and pacing
• Strong classroom management skills, including the ability to maintain structure, focus, and discipline
• Professional communication skills with students, parents, and staff
• High level of reliability, responsiveness, and preparedness, especially when covering classes on short notice

Job Types: Part-time, Seasonal

Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 0.5 – 6.0 per week

Work Location: In person
