Summary
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead medium-to-large-scale capital projects, with budgets up to $30M, across multiple production and distribution facilities. This role requires a balance of technical expertise, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within scope, and on budget. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader who brings both strategic oversight and practical execution skills, with a strong commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage capital projects from initiation through completion, ensuring compliance with all safety, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
- Provide technical and managerial leadership to project teams, including internal engineering, operations, and external contractors.
- Develop and oversee project plans, budgets, schedules, and resource allocations.
- Serve as the central point of accountability for scope, cost, and schedule performance.
- Coordinate and monitor the work of contractors, vendors, and consultants to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
- Lead project review meetings, presenting progress updates and resolving issues with leadership and stakeholders.
- Maintain and update the organization’s short- and long-term capital project portfolio to align with strategic goals.
- Drive risk identification and mitigation strategies to keep projects on track.
- Oversee Management of Change (MOC) processes and ensure proper documentation throughout project execution.
- Ensure all engineering records, equipment data, and project documentation remain accurate and up to date.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) from an ABET-accredited institution.
- 8 years of project engineering and project management experience, ideally within refining, chemical manufacturing, or upstream energy industries.
- Strong understanding of unit operations in refinery or process plant environments, with familiarity across key engineering disciplines.
- Proficiency in technical writing, cost estimation, project planning, and contractor management.
- Skilled in software applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, and CAD.
- Experience with stage-gate project processes.
- Proven ability to lead without formal authority and build strong cross-functional relationships.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Primarily office-based, with regular time spent in production and outdoor settings.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs., climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and work in varying temperatures.
- Required use of all safety equipment.
- Up to 50% travel may be required for outages, turnarounds, and site-based project work.
