GENERAL SUMMARY, EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Under direct supervision, the Payroll Clerk will support the District’s financial goals by processing monthly payroll for all District employees; performing various clerical tasks to accurately maintain payroll, personnel and tax data; keep payroll records organized and up to date; work cooperatively with Administration and other staff members
- High school diploma or equivalent. Associates degree preferred
- Minimum of one year payroll experience preferred, along with prior computer and 10-key calculator experience, and knowledge of Excel
- Clear a state criminal record check and a child abuse check
- Be a minimum of 18 years old
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, WITH FREQUENCIES:
- (C) Process monthly payroll for salaried and hourly employees; accurately calculate compensation by reviewing hours worked and paid leave used, ensure benefit and tax deductions are processed correctly; provide confidential and courteous customer service to employees on pay and pay-related information; support the District’s financial directives
- (C) Perform a variety of clerical tasks in support of payroll processing, such as monthly reviews and processing of benefit billings to ensure benefit deductions are accurate, process direct deposits, complete employment and income verifications; use a computer and various types of software and computer programs to maintain personnel records, tax and payroll data, and to create documents and spreadsheets
- (C) Demonstrate professionalism at all times when speaking with employees and benefit vendors; exercise good judgment; effectively collaborate with others in a courteous and honest manner; conduct oneself according to the policies of the District and the Nebraska Board of Education
- 4. (C) Regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job in order to maintain a student’s regular routines, foster student learning and build student relationships; the ability to perform the identified tasks and possess the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the identified work activities; the ability to perform the identified physical requirements
Duties may vary, however, examples of typical performance responsibilities are listed below (not intended to be all-inclusive). There may be other duties assigned to a Payroll Clerk by other members of District Administration as part of fulfilling goals that support student learning.
Examples of Performance Responsibilities:
- Review work and leave hours and other payroll data in order to accurately compute wages, and detect and reconcile payroll discrepancies
- Maintain and update payroll records and personnel information and communicate changes to other departments and external vendors, as required
- Verify data from TimeClock Plus, Absence Management, and other sources in order to calculate hours worked, pay adjustments, and leave taken
- Keep informed about changes in tax laws and benefit provisions that apply to the payroll process
- Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations
- Properly use office equipment such as copiers, fax machines, telephones, scanners
- Use EFinance, TAS, Google Mail, Laserfische, Absence Management (Frontline) and other computer programs to obtain and/or enter data and maintain payroll and personnel records, read and send email, and create and maintain documents
- Communicate clearly and in a professional manner with District administration, vendors and staff
- Learn to operate new office technologies and software as they are developed and implemented
- Demonstrate positive attitude, school loyalty, cooperation, teamwork, and safety mindedness on the job
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information, in accordance with the law and District policies
- Receives direction from the Chief Financial Officer and assists with special projects as necessary
