Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented CNC Setup Technician to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and setting up CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines to ensure efficient, precise, and high-quality production runs. You will play a critical part in maintaining smooth operations by interpreting blueprints, programming CNC equipment, and ensuring all setups meet strict quality standards. Responsibilities
- Read and interpret technical blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications to determine setup requirements.
- Program CNC machines using CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software and verify programs for accuracy.
- Set up CNC milling machines, lathes, and other equipment by installing tooling, fixtures, and workpieces with precision.
- Conduct machine calibration using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines.
- Perform routine inspections of machined parts to ensure they meet GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards.
- Troubleshoot machine issues quickly to minimize downtime and optimize machining processes.
- Maintain detailed setup documentation and records of production runs for quality control purposes.
Requirements
- Proven experience with CNC programming and setup on CNC milling machines or CNC lathes, preferably with Fanuc controls.
- Strong understanding of blueprint reading, GD&T principles, and mechanical drawings.
- Proficiency in CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software such as SolidWorks or similar tools.
- Knowledge of electrical discharge machining (EDM), tooling selection, and fixture design is a plus.
- Mechanical aptitude with experience in manufacturing environments involving plastics injection molding or welding is desirable.
- Basic math skills for calculating dimensions, tolerances, and machining parameters.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles to promote efficiency and waste reduction.
- Valid forklift certification is preferred for material handling tasks.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
