Elk River/JELCO is seeking a motivated and hands-on Production Supervisor to oversee daily manufacturing operations in our sewing production facility. This position is responsible for leading production employees, ensuring safety, maintaining quality standards, meeting production schedules, and driving continuous improvement throughout the department.
The ideal candidate is an organized leader who enjoys working on the production floor, solving problems, developing employees, and ensuring products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Essential Responsibilities
- Supervise the daily activities of sewing, assembly, inspection, and material handling personnel.
- Ensure production schedules are achieved while maintaining quality and safety standards.
- Monitor employee productivity and provide coaching, training, and performance feedback.
- Assign work based on production priorities and available labor.
- Verify that all products meet company specifications and customer quality requirements.
- Investigate production issues and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and defects.
- Work closely with Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Shipping, and Planning departments to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Maintain accurate production records, labor reporting, downtime documentation, and daily shift reports.
- Promote and enforce all company safety policies, housekeeping standards, and OSHA requirements.
- Monitor work-in-process (WIP) to maintain efficient production flow.
- Assist with employee training, cross-training, and onboarding of new team members.
- Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
- Participate in production meetings and communicate production status, staffing needs, and operational concerns to management.
- Maintain inventory accuracy by coordinating with warehouse personnel and ensuring proper material handling procedures are followed.
Qualifications
- Previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience in a sewing, textile, cut-and-sew, harness, or industrial assembly operation is highly desirable.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to motivate employees and build a positive team environment.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify production problems and implement practical solutions.
- Ability to read work instructions, production documents, and manufacturing specifications.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, and quality systems is preferred.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and manufacturing software.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Forklift certification is a plus.
