About ELJ, Inc.
ELJ is a family-owned general contracting, excavating, and bulk materials business based in Bristol, Rhode Island. We're growing, and we're looking for an Accountant Controller to run the financial side of the business, from billing and collections to job management and year-end tax prep.
What You'll Do
Accounts Receivable & Billing
- Prepare and send customer invoices and progress billing for all jobs
- Manage collections and stay on top of aging receivables
- Post and reconcile customer payments
Accounts Payable
- Process vendor and subcontractor bills accurately and on time
- Manage payment runs and vendor relationships
- Track lien waivers and certificates of insurance
Job Management
- Set up and track jobs from start to finish, including budgets, costs, and change orders
- Monitor job costing and profitability across contracting, excavation, and materials sales
- Work closely with ownership and project leads to keep jobs on budget and billed correctly
Financial Reporting & Tax Prep
- Maintain the books in QuickBooks Online and complete month-end close
- Produce an accurate monthly profit and loss statement, along with the balance sheet
- Reconcile bank, credit card, and loan accounts monthly
- Prepare and organize everything our CPAs need for annual tax filings
What We're Looking For
- 3 years of experience in AR/AP, billing, and bookkeeping; construction or trades experience is a big plus
- Strong QuickBooks Online skills and comfort in Excel
- Experience with job costing and job management
- Highly organized, reliable, and detail-oriented
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting preferred
Compensation
$70,000 - $110,000 per year, based on experience.
This is a full-time, on-site position in Bristol, RI.
