POSITION TITLE: Health Room Nurse (RN OR LPN)
STATUS: Full-Time, 9-month position (182 days); days consistent with student days
DEPARTMENT: Support Services

REPORTS TO: Director of Support Services

MINIMUM HOURLY PAY RATE: $22.16
General Responsibilities/Job Summary:
Provides and documents approved treatments. Communicates medical information with parents and guardians. Provides office assistance.
Essential Functions/Duties:
- As assigned, set up and maintain the school health room
- Record students' information, height, weight, and participate in taking vital signs; call parents/guardians if students may have a contagious disease
- Document Health Room visits, provide treatment and maintain comprehensive health records on all students as directed by the Certified School Nurse.
- Administer approved prescribed medication according to school district policy
- Administer first aid and conduct initial assessment of students/staff regarding complaints of illness and injury, according to district policy and procedures
- Perform clinical nursing skills within the standards of the Nurse Practice Act
- Assist with mandatory screenings and exams, including documentation and follow-up, at the direction of the Certified School Nurse
- Maintain communications with staff, parents, and the Certified School Nurse regarding health concerns of students
- Maintain a progress record on every student who requests treatment
- Check doctors' notes for acceptability of a student to return to school
- File, copy, answer the phone, deliver messages, and perform varied office assistant duties
- Attend required training provided by District
- Attend work regularly and on time, and complete assigned tasks

- Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of work, including student and staff medical records
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with students, parents/guardians, health care professionals, and associates knowledge of first aid and CPR principles and practices
- Skill in administering prescribed medication
- Ability to take health related information and maintain related records
- Ability to assist health care professional take vital signs
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to student/staff records
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of work and in working relations with students, associates, district staff, vendors and community members
- Must demonstrate ability to be congenial, cooperative and service oriented
- Ability to organize and handle multiple tasks
- Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions
- Ability to exercise good judgment
- Ability to operate standard office equipment
- Able to respond quickly to emergent situations
- Ability to physically assist in moving/positioning students
- Typically sits for sustained periods of time at a desk and/or computer
- Typically requires close visual acuity involved with medical procedures, viewing a computer screen and reading
- Frequent bending, crouching, stooping, twisting, reaching and grasping
- Some lifting and carrying, up to 50 pounds
- Manual dexterity and repetitive movement of fingers and hands
- Able to receive and deliver detailed information through written and oral communications
- Able to function at a high level in a fast paced work environment
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education and Training: High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Experience: Prior nursing experience preferred
- Required Certification/Licenses: RN (Registered Nurse) License; OR LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse); Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certificate
- Travel Requirements: Limited travel within the District for training or coverage; May be requested to accompany students on field trips

Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the applicable policies of the Elizabethtown Area School District
