Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate the employees engaged in loading, unloading, recording, arranging, routing, and delivering incoming and outgoing freight shipments. Align work schedules for driver/dock activities with freight flow. Coordinate activities of operations to obtain optimal use of equipment.
- Maintain effective employee and customer relations. Communicate effectively with employees, external customers to establish performance expectations. Ensure proper training of employees as required in all functional areas by establishing training goals, assuring that periodic training is accomplished as scheduled, and routinely reviewing each individual’s progress.
- Provide support and monitor employee performance, provide positive and corrective feedback to resolve performance issues. Responsible for all corrective action with direct reports.
- Monitor spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets.
- Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, or meeting with individual staff members and drivers.
- Direct investigations to verify and resolve customer and driver complaints. Complete daily administrated duties prior to end of shift and turn in weekly and/ or according to deadlines assigned.
- Assist with recruiting staff for assigned location by contacting applicants, getting completed driver applications returned to corporate for processing, conducting interviews, and responsible for all new hire orientation.
- Train and on board all new hires work and training.
- Review time sheets, driver logs, DVIRs and DDALs for accuracy and compliance with DOT and company guidelines prior to submitting to corporate.
- Report any maintenance repairs/issues to corporate office. Report any violation, incidents, and terminations to Human Resources within 24 hours.
- Assist with marketing and sales, by staying abreast of current market needs in the area coordinate meeting with sales team for potential new business.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education or experience
- Previous supervisory dock operations and sales experience.
- Five (5) years of related experience with progressive management experience.
- Commercial Class A driver’s license is preferred but not required.
