Key Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits prior to service delivery
- Obtain and document insurance information accurately from patients and insurance providers
- Review and interpret insurance policies to determine coverage and authorization requirements
- Communicate effectively with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers regarding coverage and authorization issues
- Assist with resolving insurance-related billing discrepancies and denials
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance policies, procedures, and industry regulations
- Ensure compliance with all privacy and confidentiality standards related to patient information
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in healthcare administration or insurance preferred
- Proven experience in insurance verification, billing, or related healthcare roles
- Strong understanding of insurance plans, coding, and billing procedures
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and billing software
Requirements
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum one (1) year of insurance verification, patient access, registration, medical billing, or healthcare revenue cycle experience preferred.
- Experience verifying commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care insurance plans preferred.
- Behavioral health experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of prior authorization processes and payer guidelines preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and electronic health record systems.
- Athenahealth experience is preferred but not required.
