Duties
- Provide peer support through active listening, encouragement, and mentorship to individuals in recovery or behavioral health treatment programs
- Assist clients in developing personalized recovery plans, utilizing motivational interviewing techniques to foster motivation and engagement
- Conduct crisis intervention and crisis management when clients experience emotional distress or behavioral emergencies, ensuring safety and appropriate response
- Facilitate connections to community resources, support groups, and mental health services to promote ongoing recovery efforts
- Document client interactions accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with privacy regulations
- Offer behavioral health education by sharing personal recovery experiences and promoting healthy coping strategies
- Collaborate with clinical staff, social workers, addiction counselors, and other team members to coordinate care and support client progress
Qualifications
- Lived experience with recovery from addiction or mental health challenges is highly valued and considered essential for this role
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and crisis management strategies
- Background in behavioral health, mental health counseling, social work, or addiction counseling preferred
- Peer Recovery Specialist Certificate
- Strong mentoring skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others toward positive change
- Proficiency in motivational interviewing methods to facilitate client engagement and goal setting
- Experience working with electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation purposes
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse populations
