Position Summary:

The Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides advanced nursing care to patients with cardiovascular diseases in collaboration with cardiologists and the multidisciplinary heart care team. The NP performs comprehensive assessments, diagnoses, develops treatment plans, and manages patients with acute and chronic cardiac conditions in both inpatient and/or outpatient settings. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality cardiovascular care.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care

  • Conduct comprehensive cardiovascular assessments, including detailed history taking and physical examinations.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic cardiovascular diseases such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, valvular disorders, and hypertension.
  • Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests (EKG, echocardiograms, stress tests, Holter monitors, and laboratory results).
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care and treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
  • Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Provide follow-up care to evaluate patient progress and modify treatment plans as needed.

Patient Education & Support

  • Educate patients and families about cardiovascular disease management, risk reduction, medications, and lifestyle modification.
  • Counsel patients on cardiac rehabilitation, diet, exercise, and smoking cessation programs.

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Coordinate care with cardiologists, primary care providers, nurses, and other allied health professionals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions.
  • Facilitate smooth transitions of care between inpatient and outpatient settings when applicable.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Accurately document all patient encounters and care plans in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, quality standards, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) required.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) licensure in [State].
  • National certification as a Nurse Practitioner (AANP or ANCC) — Adult-Gerontology or Acute Care NP preferred.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in cardiology, acute care, or internal medicine preferred.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required.
  • Strong diagnostic and clinical reasoning skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork abilities.

Working Conditions:

  • Fast-paced clinical environment (outpatient clinic, hospital, or both).
  • Requires extended periods of standing, walking, and interaction with patients.
  • May involve rotating schedules, including occasional weekends or on-call duties depending on the practice.

Pay: $104,053.73 - $125,312.02 per year
