About the Role

A mission-driven community health organization is seeking a Director of Nursing Education and Professional Development to build and lead the training, onboarding, and competency programs that keep our clinical teams at the top of their practice. In this role, you will design learning programs grounded in the real needs of the communities we serve, partner with subject matter experts across the organization, and ensure our nurses and medical assistants are supported, confident, and ready to deliver safe, high-quality care.



What You'll Do

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate training and competency development initiatives aligned with the populations served and identified learning gaps
  • Set an annual plan to support safe, high-quality patient care, identifying needed training programs based on ongoing skills assessment, regulatory requirements (HRSA, The Joint Commission, DPH, MassHealth contracts, etc.), and new program development
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to design training content and leverage their expertise to lead training in their area
  • Design, implement, and evaluate new staff orientation and onboarding programs aligned with new hire learning needs and their progression toward independent practice
  • Ensure preceptor programs reflect evidence-based models and align with organizational needs and patient populations
  • Continuously assess and improve preceptor program quality based on input from preceptors, new hires, and leadership
  • Ensure preceptors selected for nursing and MA orientation are practicing at the highest level of proficiency and clinical judgment
  • Support nursing leadership in employee retention initiatives, including reward and recognition programs that improve job satisfaction for the nursing and MA teams
  • Partner with HR and Workforce Development leadership to coordinate placement of students and interns based on aligned needs and learning opportunities
  • Oversee the CPR certification program and serve as liaison to the external vendor (American Heart Association) to ensure proper documentation and tracking
  • Provide EMR training to the extent it aligns with clinical practice scope for nurses and MAs, and contribute to broader organizational EMR training needs as approved by nursing leadership
  • Stay current on the latest evidence-based practice protocols and American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing standards
  • Contribute to the development and ongoing revision of clinical policies and practice guidelin
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for online triage applications that guide triage practice
  • Play a key role in survey preparation, including assessing compliance gaps related to practice, patient safety, and documentation
  • Supervise and delegate to the Clinical Support Coordinator to ensure training materials, schedules, logistics, evaluations, and other program details are completed
  • Serve on committees requiring clinical input or subject matter expertise within scope of practi
  • Serve as the primary education liaison within relevant statewide and national community health forums.


Experience

  • Minimum 5-7 years practicing in acute care, ambulatory care, a health center, or other settings serving complex, high-risk, chronic populations
  • Minimum 2 years in a training and education role in a healthcare setting, targeting nurses, medical assistants, or other support staff in the delivery of nursing care
  • Experience with staff development programs, orientation, and onboarding initiatives directed by nursing leadership
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) desirable, but not required


Education & Licensure

  • A valid Massachusetts nursing license is required
  • Bachelor's in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Master's Degree in Nursing Education highly desirable
  • Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) credential desireable
  • Current CPR / BLS certification required.

Salary : $85,000 - $100,000
