Park Naturalist – Elijah Clark State Park
Job Overview
Park Naturalists at Elijah Clark State Park help visitors enjoy and learn about the park’s history, wildlife, and natural beauty. They lead fun and interesting programs, such as nature walks, campfire talks, and outdoor activities, so people can explore and understand the park.
Main Duties
- Plan and Lead Programs: Create and guide activities that show the park’s plants, animals, and special features.
- Share Information: Give talks and answer questions so visitors can learn more about the park.
- Create Displays and Materials: Make signs, displays, and written materials to help people explore the park.
- Protect the Park: Watch over plants and animals, take part in conservation work, and help keep the park safe for visitors and wildlife.
- Help with Visitors: Work in the visitor center and help lead seasonal staff, volunteers, and interns.
Skills & Qualifications
- Love and respect for nature, history, and the outdoors.
- Friendly and confident when speaking to groups of all ages.
- Able to make activities fun, clear, and easy to follow.
- Can identify, or is willing to learn about, local plants and animals.
- Good at planning and organizing events.
- Works well alone and as part of a team.
- Able to stay calm and solve problems in the moment.
- Basic writing skills for signs, displays, and short articles.
- Willing to work outside in different types of weather.
