Role Description The District Secondary ESL Coordinator is a full-time, on-site role based in Elgin, TX, responsible for leading and supporting English as a Second Language (ESL) programming at the secondary level. This role coordinates the design, implementation, and evaluation of ESL services across middle and high schools, aligning them with district, state, and federal requirements. Daily responsibilities include coaching and supporting secondary teachers, modeling effective ESL and sheltered instruction strategies, and providing professional development focused on serving English learners. The coordinator collaborates with campus and district leaders to develop and refine curriculum, assessments, and instructional materials that promote literacy and academic language development. Additional responsibilities include analyzing student performance data, supporting compliance and documentation for English learners, engaging families and caregivers, and serving as a key resource for best practices in secondary ESL education.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in working with English Language Learners, including knowledge of second language acquisition and strategies for supporting multilingual students.
- Strong background in Teaching and Education, with experience in secondary classroom instruction and instructional coaching or teacher support.
- Proven ability in Curriculum Development, including designing, aligning, and adapting curriculum and assessments to meet the needs of English learners.
- Skill in promoting Literacy, academic language, and content-area reading and writing for secondary students.
- Current teaching certification and appropriate ESL or bilingual endorsement as required by state regulations, or eligibility to obtain them within a specified timeline.
- Experience in K–12 public education, preferably at the secondary level and in a diverse, multilingual setting.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills, with the ability to work effectively with educators, administrators, students, and families.
- Ability to interpret and use data to inform instructional decisions, program design, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Organizational and time-management skills to coordinate multiple campuses, projects, and deadlines.
- Commitment to equity, cultural responsiveness, and inclusive practices in all aspects of ESL program leadership.
