What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Product Advisor position at Elgin Industries?
ABOUT ELGIN INDUSTRIES
For more than 100 years, Elgin Industries has built trusted engine and chassis components for original equipment and aftermarket customers. Today, our products support organizations such as Stellantis, Deere & Company, Ford, General Motors, Harley-Davidson, Mack, and International Truck, along with parts distributors, production and custom engine builders, repair shops, racers, and performance enthusiasts around the world.
We are proud of our engineering heritage, but just as proud of the people behind it. Our culture is built on honesty, integrity, respect, and a genuine enthusiasm for helping customers build better engines.
IF ENGINES ARE YOUR PASSION, LET’S TALK
If you spend your weekends at the track, in the garage, at LS Fest or Sick Summer, or helping someone solve an engine problem, this could be the role for you.
As a Technical Product Advisor, you will be a trusted product resource for customers and internal teams. You will help identify the right Elgin components for specific engine applications, answer technical questions, explain product features and fitment, and support customers before and after the order with clear, practical guidance.
You do not need a college degree to succeed here. We care more about hands-on engine knowledge, curiosity, practical problem-solving, and the ability to communicate technical information in a way customers can trust.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Help customers and internal teams identify the correct Elgin products for engine applications, usage requirements, and performance goals
- Answer product, fitment, application, and technical questions by phone, email, online channels, and in person
- Translate customer needs into clear product recommendations, including part selection, basic troubleshooting, and application guidance
- Represent Elgin at selected racing, trade, industry, and customer events as a knowledgeable product resource
- Build trust with engine builders, racers, enthusiasts, distributors, repair professionals, and other customers through accurate, straightforward technical support
- Support order accuracy by confirming product details, application requirements, and customer specifications when needed
- Collaborate internally across Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, customer service, and sales to resolve application questions, understand product feedback, and improve the customer experience
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Share common customer questions, fitment issues, and application trends with the product and engineering teams
- Stay current on engine platforms, aftermarket trends, racing activity, customer feedback, and competitor product positioning
- Provide practical input on product literature, application guides, catalog information, and technical support resources
- Use CRM software or similar tools to document customer questions, product needs, application details, and follow-up activity
- Help customers and internal teams better understand the technical features, applications, limitations, and benefits of Elgin products
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Passion and Experience:
- A genuine enthusiasm for engines, performance vehicles, racing, engine building, and the automotive aftermarket
- Real-world experience that may come from a speed shop, parts counter, machine shop, engine building, racing, repair work, technical support, customer service, or years of hands-on involvement in the enthusiast community
- Knowledge of high-performance engine parts, enthusiast engine applications, valve train components, or engine component fitment is highly valued
- The ability to listen carefully, ask good diagnostic questions, explain technical information clearly, and help customers make confident product decisions
- A customer-first mindset with the patience and confidence to support everyone from a professional engine builder to a first-time enthusiast
- Strong follow-through, organization, problem-solving, accuracy, and attention to product details
- Comfort working with engineering, customer service, quality, product, and sales teams as one coordinated group
- Willingness to learn complex product applications, catalog information, and engine platform details over time
- Ability and willingness to travel to select racing, industry, and customer events
A college degree is not required. Passion, practical knowledge, relevant experience, and the ability to earn customer trust matter most.

Travel, including occasional overnight travel, may be required based on the event schedule. No special certifications or licenses are required.
HOW TO APPLY
Some of the best people in this industry learned their craft in a garage, at the track, in a machine shop, behind a parts counter, or by helping customers solve real problems. If that sounds like you, we would love to hear your story.
Please submit your resume at elsie@elginind.com and, if you would like, a brief note telling us about your experience, the engines or projects you are passionate about, and why this opportunity interests you; or apply directly through LinkedIn or Indeed.
