Our client, an investment firm, is seeking a Developer/Business Analyst to join their team in Los Angeles, CA or Dallas, TX!
This individual will support and advance the firm’s CLO and structured credit technology platforms. This individual will sit at the intersection of investment teams and engineering—gathering requirements, building custom applications, and enhancing reporting workflows that drive critical portfolio and risk decisions.
Responsibilities
Business Analysis & Portfolio Support
- Partner directly with the Portfolio Director for CLOs and senior investment team members to understand daily workflows, portfolio metrics, and reporting needs.
- Analyze structured finance datasets, cash flows, waterfall assumptions, and deal-level characteristics to support portfolio management and investment decision-making.
- Gather, translate, and document business requirements into detailed technical specifications and development plans.
- Support front-office users across CLO and hedge fund strategies, ensuring systems accurately reflect exposures, risk, IRR, and P&L.
Application Development
- Build, enhance, and maintain custom applications to support the CLO business unit—including modeling tools, reporting pipelines, and internal dashboards.
- Write clean, efficient code across SQL and at least one scripting/programming language (Python preferred).
- Develop new processes that replace legacy or inefficient workflows, improving accuracy and speed for daily and periodic reporting.
- Integrate third-party datasets with internal systems and ensure seamless ingestion into data warehouses and analytics platforms.
Data Engineering & Reporting Optimization
- Optimize SQL-based data transformations, indexing strategies, backend table design, triggers, and post-processing jobs to improve system performance, data freshness, and reporting reliability.
- Maintain and modernize firmwide CLO/credit reporting systems, ensuring scalability and long-term sustainability.
- Build and refine automated CLO portfolio models that incorporate disparate data sources and generate daily, quarterly, and inception-to-date performance metrics.
- Ensure high data quality and integrity across thousands of data points per portfolio, minimizing reporting errors and latency.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the bridge between investment teams, technology, data engineering, and operations.
- Lead testing cycles, coordinate releases, and ensure that new enhancements meet business expectations and quality standards.
- Support end users through training, documentation, and ongoing troubleshooting.
Qualifications
Required
- 3 years of experience in a technical, analytical, or engineering role within financial services.
- Hands-on coding proficiency in SQL (T-SQL or PostgreSQL required).
- Ability to write scripts or lightweight applications in Python or similar language.
- Strong knowledge of CLOs, structured finance, or credit analytics (must understand deal structures, metrics, and data).
- Experience supporting or building analytics/reporting for investment teams.
- Ability to translate complex business needs into scalable technical solutions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working with large, complex datasets.
Preferred
Experience with:
- Data warehouses / ETL pipelines.
- Tableau, Looker, Power BI.
- Azure Databricks or cloud-based compute.
- Agile development, Jira/Confluence, Git.
- Prior experience at an investment firm, CLO manager, or structured credit software provider (e.g., Allvue) is a strong plus.
