Job Summary
Direct Support Professionals in the Elevated Care After School Program provide high-quality, compassionate, hands-on support to children with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a structured after-school setting. DSP’s should promote each child’s choice while supporting them in making safe, healthy decisions, facilitating planned and independently led activities, assisting with individual needs as applicable, and encouraging skill-building to meet individual goals.
Responsibilities
- Support children in daily activities including community outings, games, physical exercise, and other recreational and skill-building activities
- Implement and follow individualized behavior support plans while utilizing appropriate behavior support strategies
- Apply relevant support strategies in individualized care of each child
- Assist with personal care as needed (i.e. feeding, toileting, mobility, etc.)
- Maintain a safe, clean, uplifting, and supportive environment at all time
- Document daily charting notes and incident reports in an accurate and timely manner
- Act as a mentor and model of respect, kindness, patience, diligence, and inclusion in all interactions with children and peers
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required, some college coursework in human services preferred
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred
- Experience working with children preferred
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs and assist with physical support or transfers as needed
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
- Current Food Handler’s certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
- Ability to pass a background check
