Thrift Store Manager
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Department: Thrift Store
Work Location: Branson, Missouri
FLSA Status: Full-Time Non-Exempt
Purpose: The Thrift Store Manager provides supervision, oversight and management of the Elevate Branson thrift store operations to generate revenue to support Elevate Branson administration and programs. The Manager manages thrift store staff and volunteers, oversees sales, donations of merchandise, promotion of the store in the community, and internal fiscal controls. The Manager is a member of the Senior Management Team.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversees procedures for store operations, including opening, and closing the store; procedures for accepting, sorting, pricing donations; security procedures for staff and volunteers, handling of cash, and other relevant procedures as needed.
- Oversees the processing of donated items, organize donated pick-ups and manages the rotation of items and the disposal of donated items in a timely fashion.
- Processes include: sorting, tagging, displaying and disposing of donated items, providing direction to staff and volunteers; sets standards for merchandise and communicates same.
- Manages supply inventory and completes purchase orders as necessary.
- Experience with “point of sale,” computerized sales & inventory systems, Square system is a plus.
- Understands budget management and contributes to the development of annual revenue projections and meets financial goals.
- Maintain and increase knowledge of resale, thrift, consignment and retail trends through daily reading (websites, publications) and participation in webinars, staff meetings, and periodic offsite training.
- Meets periodically with other thrift shop managers for networking.
- Participate in training required by accreditation standards, plus performance and quality improvement efforts.
- Completes and submits all required and assigned paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
- Coordinates the hiring, supervision, evaluation and professional development of staff under manager’s direct supervision.
- Establishes sales goals for staff and lead volunteers.
- Assesses the store’s need for staff and volunteers.
- Create weekly and daily store sales and events, using social media, coupons, etc.
- Develops schedules for paid staff and works with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure the development of a daily schedule of volunteer coverage to maintain adequate personnel at the store to accomplish tasks and respond to customers.
- Trains and supervises store volunteers; helps with recruiting of volunteers.
- Provides supervision for staff to include regular and ongoing monitoring of work productivity and work habits; performance evaluations of individual staff as required by supervisor; review of job descriptions as required by supervisor; timely reporting to supervisor of performance excellence or disciplinary issues.
- Maintains current knowledge of Elevate Branson policies and procedures as they relate to personnel; monitor staff for adherence to policies and procedures; take corrective action as necessary to ensure staff is in compliance.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conducts regularly scheduled communication with staff to provide direction, guidance and oversight to personnel.
- Consults with staff on a regular basis, addressing concerns and sharing ideas.
- Provides timely direction and written and verbal feedback to staff.
- Ensures staff is fully trained and competent to perform the elements of their job as defined by their job description.
- Ensures staff is knowledgeable of Elevate Branson policies and procedures and are compliant.
- Analyzes sales and current inventory in order to provide projections and recommendations to retain customers and increase sales.
- Oversees the display of merchandise inside the store to enhance the appearance and appeal of the store.
- Promotes excellence in the customer service experience for all visitors to the thrift store through staff training, stakeholder surveys, and focus groups.
- Acknowledges and follows financial policies of the agency.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Leadership and organization/administration as well as the ability to use technology for both recruitment and support of volunteers.
- Must also have a proven track record of effective team-building.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a team player. Understanding that resolving conflict requires handling situations with integrity and professionalism by communicating with direct supervisor.
- Must be a self-starter always looking for ways to improve upon the program.
- Ability to effectively communicate (strong oral and written communication skills) and work well with a variety different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

- Ability to adapt to quickly changing organization environment including learning and applying new training and knowledge.
- Ability to generate enthusiasm and interest from others for working within certain departments.
- Must fully support the Elevate Branson mission, vision, core values and staff.
- Must have good computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Must have minimum 2 years retail sales experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires ability to sit up to 3-7 hours per day with frequent walking, standing, bending, squatting, pulling and pushing.
- Occasionally may be required to lift items up to 10 pounds to a height up to 6 feet and 11-25 pounds to a height of 3 feet.
- Occasionally may be required to carry items up to 30 pounds for distances up to 25 feet.
