Anticipated End Date: 2026-03-31 Position Title: Regional Medical Officer – Carelon (Palliative Care) Job Description: Regional Medical Officer – Carelon (Palliative Care) Location: This field-based role enables associates to primarily operate in the field, traveling to client sites or designated locations as their role requires, with occasional office attendance for meetings or training. This approach ensures flexibility, responsiveness to client needs, and direct, hands-on engagement. The Regional Medical Officer is responsible for contributing to market clinical strategy, excellence and quality, and/or clinical oversight in one or more domains. Also responsible for providing internal medicine services to patients. Responsible for managing staff, as well as, performing administrative work. How you make an impact: Assists market leadership in developing and executing comprehensive and coordinated clinical programs, improving clinical excellence and quality, and/or providing clinical oversight of care in one or more domains. Provides patient care in one or more areas as physician on a daily basis. Collaborates with hospitals, skilled nursing facilities (where required) and care management teams and reviews patients with case managers. Develops and improves training practices and materials. Hires, trains, coaches, counsels, and evaluates performance of direct reports. Minimum Requirements: Requires MD or DO and completion of residency such as Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics. Minimum of 2 years of experience as a practicing physician in hospital medicine, primary care, or specialty medicine required. Requires current unrestricted medical licensure in applicable state(s) and board eligibility or board certification. DEA license required. For Carelon Health business units, satisfactory completion of a Tuberculosis test is a requirement for this position. Preferred Qualifications: Palliative care fellowship/board certification or experience is strongly preferred. Physician leadership experience preferred. For candidates working in person or virtually in the below location(s), the salary* range for this specific position is $253,260 to $434,160. Locations: District of Columbia (Washington, DC); Maryland; Massachusetts; New Jersey; and New York.
