Mechanical Design Engineer (MEP)

ELEN Consulting, Inc. is a San Diego-based MEP engineering firm delivering mechanical and electrical designs across federal/military, commercial, civic, education, and industrial projects throughout California. We're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who is ready to take ownership of their designs and grow within a firm that invests in its people.

At ELEN, you'll work directly alongside licensed PEs and firm leadership on projects that carry real technical and professional weight. This is a hands-on role. You'll be producing mechanical designs on active projects from concept through construction documents across a broad range of building types and client sectors. Responsibilities include load calculations, ductwork and piping design, equipment selection, specification preparation and review, and coordination with architectural and engineering disciplines. You'll be expected to communicate clearly with project stakeholders and proactively identify and resolve design issues throughout the project lifecycle.

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
• At least 2 years of HVAC and/or plumbing engineering experience in the MEP industry
• EIT certification or equivalent experience.
• Working proficiency in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD
• Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu
• Experience with California-specific HVAC load calculation and energy compliance software, including Trane TRACE 3D Plus or Carrier HAP for load calculations, and EnergyPro for Title 24 compliance
• Working knowledge of ASHRAE, IMC, IPC, NFPA, and California Energy Codes (Title 24)
• Experience preparing or reviewing project specifications and construction documents

Nice to Have:

• Experience with IES-VE or equivalent energy modeling and performance analysis tools
• Familiarity with federal and military project delivery, including UFCs and UFGS
• Background in civic, institutional, or industrial project types

$80,000 – $130,000, commensurate with the experience, qualifications, and demonstrated capability of each individual applicant. We are committed to compensating our team fairly and competitively relative to the value they bring.

Primary Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM | Friday, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Location: San Diego, CA — primarily in-office.

Flexible-Hybrid work schedule available after the introductory period for candidates who have established their workflow.
