CNC Setup Machinist — Advanced Level

Picture your third shift starting in Princeton, MN. You walk onto a spotless, well-organized production floor at Glenn Metalcraft Inc., fire up your CNC centers, recall programs, verify your setup sheets, and run a first-article part that passes inspection on the first attempt. You keep output on pace, coach safe habits, and make the micro-adjustments that keep quality locked in. That’s a typical night for our advanced-level CNC setup machinist.

What your night looks like

• Independently complete full machine setups and recall/input programs to start production quickly and safely.
• Load new tooling, touch off, manage basic fixtures/workholding, and check tools in/out through the tool crib system.
• Run accurate first-part qualifications and perform necessary in-process quality checks with clear daily communication.
• Execute small program edits and make advanced adjustments/repairs to keep machines in spec.
• Report production quantities precisely to hit parts-per-hour targets and maintain consistent material/product counts.
• Set up workstations for maximum efficiency while enforcing lockout/tagout and a safety-first culture.
• Maintain clean, organized equipment and assist with preventative maintenance.
• Jump in to operate multiple CNC machines when needed and collaborate positively with coworkers, customers, and leadership.
  
  

What you bring

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 2 years of machining experience with proven troubleshooting ability; prior manufacturing experience preferred.
• Comfort working safely in varying production conditions; able to follow instructions precisely.
• Blueprint literacy; skilled with calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and bore gauges.
• Solid math fundamentals (fractions, decimals, metric conversions).
• Working knowledge of metals, surface speeds, and chip load.
• Forklift certification and adherence to hoist safety protocols.
• Self-motivated, detail-driven, and action-oriented.
  
  

Physical realities of the role

• Lift up to 40 lbs. consistently; stand for up to 10 hours.
• Strong hand/eye coordination, manual dexterity, and stamina.
• Proficient with power tools and committed to wearing required PPE.
• Comfort working in a production environment with changing temperatures and humidity.
