This is a hybrid role that requires some on-site work (inside our Indianapolis, Indiana office). In addition to the on-site duties, there are additional responsibilities that can be completed outside of the office, resulting in this being a hybrid role.

The People Operations Specialist is a detail-oriented professional dedicated to delivering accurate, timely, and compliant payroll, benefits, and leave management for all employees. This role serves as a primary resource for employee inquiries, ensuring prompt and professional support in all areas of compensation and benefits. By collaborating with the People & Purpose Team, the People Operations Specialist helps drive operational excellence and contributes to a seamless, positive employee experience across the organization.
You will learn how to be the expert to best serve our members:
- Serve as the primary contact for employees with payroll, benefits, and leave management related matters, delivering a positive experience for employees.
- Process semi-monthly payroll in ADP, including hourly wages, salaries, overtime, incentives/bonuses, deductions, and employee benefits.
- Manage timecard processes and ensure payroll spreadsheets are accurate and complete prior to uploading into ADP for processing.
- Collaborate with ADP payroll support as needed for manual check calculations and processing.
- Responsible for reporting and uploading of semi-monthly 401(k) reports to vendor portal semi-monthly and ensure reporting is accurate and completed in a timely manner.
- Review quarterly and year-end reports to ensure compliance with tax filing requirements.
- Remain current and compliant with all OSHA requirements, as well as state and federal pay and tax regulations where Elements employees reside.
- Partner with payroll and benefit providers to ensure information is accurate and the organization is following best practices. This includes but is not limited to working with ADP for the set up new state(s); including the filing of relevant reports and documents as needed; and handling all compliance reporting; and working with OneAmerica to provide timely documentation for new hires, terminations, and any personnel life events
- Prepare and maintain all necessary and requested reports involving compensation and benefits.
- Responsible for new employee education on all benefit offerings provided by Elements.
You will make a difference as you live out our purpose:
- Professionally and promptly work with employees regarding any payroll, timecard, attendance, or PTO questions or concerns.
- Escalate to and partner with People Operations Manager in more complex personnel, payroll and HR situations.
- Manage benefit changes due to life events and ensure timely updates in ADP and other vendor systems.
- Conduct new employee systems training and assist with onboarding of benefits ensuring all new hire paperwork is completed and updated in the appropriate systems in a timely manner.
You will help grow the business:
- Collaborate with members of the HR team to assist with or oversee HR projects.
- Research and prepare market compensation data as well as complete national salary surveys.
- Partner with the People and Purpose team to capture promotions, pay changes, bonuses, incentives, and any other modifications impacting employee pay.
- Contribute to additional projects and responsibilities as needed to support team and organizational goals.

- Learn from People Operations Manager to be back up for more complex issues and higher-level compensation and benefits.
- Participate in appropriate learning opportunities to maintain expertise.
- Cross train and assist with HR related functions.
- Maintain knowledge of human resources trends, concepts, and practices. Consistently share new ideas and best practices.
- Establish and maintain ongoing relationship with credit union HR Peer Group or professional organizations to seek out best practices for potential implementation.
- Provide exceptional service to internal and external members.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or minimum of 4-6 years' experience in processing payroll in a fast-paced organization.
- Experience with benefits processes, including leave management and compliance.
- Accurate and meticulous data entry and a strong attention to detail.
- Highly proficient in computer skills and technology.
- Strong clerical, administrative and general office skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Certification issued by the American Payroll Association is desired.
- Financial services background and experience with sales incentives is a plus.
- Strong collaboration and verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to leverage skills, knowledge, and experience to invest in the community.
