Job Description
JOB TITLE: Elementary School Resource Officer
SUPERVISORS: GCS Superintendent and Director of School Safety
POSITION PURPOSE: To provide professional law enforcement service while maintaining a safe, secure, drug-free environment that is conducive to learning. The Officers are committed to building positive relationships between students, parents, staff and the public while upholding the overall vision, mission, core values and guiding principles of the school corporation.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Be a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.
- Maintain mandatory yearly police training as established by Indiana Code and the Greensburg Police Department.
- Thoroughly and effectively investigate criminal activity within Greensburg Community Schools jurisdiction (law enforcement officer).
- Provide programming and assistance in areas such as drug prevention, law-related education, and making positive choices.
- Receive certification through the National Association of School Resource Officers in compliance with Indiana Code if not previously certified.
- Receive basic and advanced certification through Indiana School Safety Specialist Academy if not previously certified.
- Assist in the development of school safety plans and the practice of drills as outlined in those plans.
- Adhere to all state and federal confidentiality laws.
- Carry out other duties with respect to law enforcement and school safety as directed by the Chief of Police and direct supervisors.
EVALUATION: Evaluation of performance on this job will be in accordance with the provisions in the policy handbook.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Provide two(2) letters of reference (current and/or past supervisors preferred).
- Provide copy of ILEA certificate of completion.
- Provide any other relevant law enforcement certifications and trainings.
