General Description:

Provide leadership and administration that will motivate instructional and support personnel to strive and provide the best possible opportunities for student growth and development, both educationally and personally.

 

Supervision of Others:

Direct supervision over: (1) Licensed Staff (2) Support Staff (3) Secretarial/clerical staff (4) All regular instructional and other professional staff members assigned to the school.

 

Areas of Responsibility:

THE LIST OF AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY IS NOT EXHAUSTIVE AND MAY BE SUPPLEMENTED

  1. Develop and administer the general school routine, and coordinate all activities within the school building.
  2. Participate in the selection of new teaching and classified personnel.
  3. Observe, counsel, and motivate professional staff toward performances to attain established educational goals.
  4. Utilize to the fullest extent possible, all available school facilities, materials, and service personnel.
  5. Continually evaluate existing programs and practices, curriculum content, and pilot or experimental programs.
  6. Maintain an educational philosophy and school climate which encourages a cooperative and participating attitude on the part of all teachers and students.
  7. Maintain a standard of student behavior designed to command respect and minimize school and classroom interruptions.
  8. Resolve student behavioral problems on buses.
  9. Encourage and initiate continued improvement in curriculum and teaching methods in cooperation with District administration, subject area specialists, and faculty.
  10. Identify intellectual, physical, social and emotional needs affecting students’ success in school, and take steps to direct and coordinate the efforts of teachers and parents with staff services and Special Education personnel.
  11. Plan and submit annual budget needs for the building to the Business Manager.
  12. Maintain effective communication to keep staff, students, and parents properly informed.
  13. Orient new personnel assigned to the school.
  14. Maintain and have school records available and up to date for ready reference and accurate and timely reporting.
  15. Plan and conduct faculty meetings as necessary.
  16. Interpret and clarify relationships between teachers, grade levels, and specialized personnel in accordance with District policy.
  17. Affect or recommend changes which will lead to improved administration, supervision and opportunity for student development.
  18. Make recommendations to District Administration on any matter which will improve the District.
  19. Actively participate and encourage staff participation in parent-teacher and other community groups, as a means of developing understanding, cooperation, and respect for school objectives and endeavors.
  20. Review, authorize, or disapprove, all professional staff requests for instructional materials and equipment within the approved budget.
  21. Authorize all requests for special pupil transportation needs from professional staff.
  22. Perform all other acts reasonable and necessary to accomplish his/her primary function as requested by the Superintendent.
  23. Other areas of responsibility shall include, but not be limited to the following:
    1. Assess student progress including the proper administration of District assessments and state standardized tests;
    2. Staff professional development;
    3. Scheduling;
    4. Staffing;
    5. Curriculum development and evaluation;
    6. Student Attendance;
    7. Staff leave including the organization, scheduling and training of substitute teachers;
    8. Regular classroom observations and staff evaluations;
    9. Student discipline
    10. Classroom management;
    11. Instructional practices;
    12. Remedial programs and interventions;
    13. Legal compliance.
  24. Maintain confidentiality regarding student, staff and management related information.
  25. Follow local, state and federal law and adhere to Department of Education requirements and Governing Board policies.
  26. Supports with integrity the mission, vision, goals and positive culture of Joseph City Schools.
  27. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Ability to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.
  2. Masters degree from an accredited institution.
  3. Valid Arizona Principal certificate
  4. Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  5. Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of school administration.
  6. Ability to interpret laws, policies and guidelines relating to school administration.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Governing Board, District personnel, representatives of local and state agencies, parents and the public.
  8. Ability to work with a diverse student population, including those with various handicaps and special needs

 

Mental Tasks:

Read and communicate verbally and in writing. Analyze and evaluate student progress and course curriculum. Develop, implement and evaluate plans. Manage staff, programs and facilities. Promote learning and ensure safety. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Physical Tasks:

Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion is not normally required to perform all aspects of the job. Assistance is available as required to perform physically demanding tasks. Work involves sitting for extended periods of time, requires moving from one location to another, reaching, stooping, bending, and holding and grasping objects. Visual weakness must not prohibit the performance of assigned duties. Verbal communicative ability may be required of certain positions. Uses audio-visual equipment, including computers and related technology, marker boards, bulletin boards, copiers and printers. May use hand tools, office equipment and power driven machinery. Considerable time outside them normal school hours is required and often exceeds ten hours per week. Is subject to phone calls at odd hours and other predictable and unpredictable demands. Must maintain a condition of excellent physical and mental health.

 

Working Conditions:

Indoor – classroom environment. Outdoor – all weather conditions and temperatures. Playground or sports field environment. Exposure to noise, dust, gas and fumes.
