Position Description: Kindergarten Teacher

 

Position Type: Full-Time

 

Reports To: Campus Principal

 

Position Summary:

 

The kindergarten teacher is responsible for providing high-quality, developmentally appropriate instruction that builds strong academic, social-emotional, and foundational learning skills for young learners. The teacher fosters a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment that supports early literacy, numeracy, and positive student behavior while contributing to a positive campus culture. The ideal candidate is student-centered, collaborative, and committed to continuous improvement while maintaining high expectations for all students.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

The kindergarten teacher plans and delivers engaging, standards-aligned instruction based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in accordance with Texas Education Code §28.002. Instruction emphasizes foundational reading, language development, mathematics readiness, and social-emotional growth through developmentally appropriate practices, structured routines, and purposeful play-based learning.

 

Instruction is data-informed and designed to meet the diverse academic, linguistic, and developmental needs of early learners. The teacher implements research-based early childhood instructional strategies, including explicit modeling, guided practice, language-rich interactions, and hands-on learning experiences that promote student engagement and independence.

 

The teacher establishes predictable classroom routines and a structured, supportive learning environment that promotes positive behavior, collaboration, and a love of learning. Ongoing assessment practices, including observational and formative assessments, are used to monitor student progress, inform instruction, and provide timely feedback to families.

 

The teacher participates in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), including early intervention planning and progress monitoring to address student academic and behavioral needs. Collaboration with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, intervention staff, and campus leadership supports alignment with campus and district goals.

 

Clear, consistent, and professional communication with parents and guardians is expected to support student development and strengthen home-school partnerships. The teacher fulfills all professional responsibilities, including lesson planning, supervision duties, documentation, and participation in professional learning aligned with campus priorities. Performance expectations align with the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) domains.

 

The teacher maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment consistent with district policies, the Student Code of Conduct, and state safety requirements.

 

Qualifications:

 

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and hold a valid Texas teaching certificate in

in elementary education or applicable certification in accordance with Texas Education Code Chapter 21.

 

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of early childhood development and kindergarten curriculum
  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills appropriate for young learners
  • Ability to support early literacy and numeracy development
  • Experience using formative assessment data to guide instruction
  • Effective communication skills and professionalism
  • Commitment to collaboration and continuous improvement

Compensation:

 

Salary and benefits are provided in accordance with the district compensation plan, board policy, and applicable Texas Education Code requirements.
