What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary Title Reading Paraprofessional position at Elementary School?
The Supplemental ELA Paraprofessional supports students in developing essential literacy skills to strengthen their overall reading ability. This role focuses on building phonics skills, phonemic awareness, comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary through direct support and targeted instructional strategies.
Under the guidance and supervision of the Supplemental ELA Teacher, the paraprofessional provides supplemental literacy interventions to help students become more confident, capable readers.
Essential Responsibilities
*Assist students in learning and practicing letter names, letter sounds, and sound combinations.
*Guide students in developing phonemic awareness skills, including blending, segmenting, and manipulating sounds.
*Support students in making predictions, identifying main ideas, and drawing connections between a text’s title, purpose, or theme.
*Reinforce reading comprehension strategies to help students interpret and understand text meaning.
*Utilize age-appropriate instructional materials, tools, and strategies to foster engagement and build literacy skills.
*Provide small group or one-on-one instructional support as directed by the Supplemental ELA
Teacher.
*Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the Supplemental ELA Teacher to guide
instructional planning.
*Encourage student confidence, independence, and persistence in literacy tasks.
*Assist in creating a positive, supportive learning environment where students feel safe to take risks in their learning.
Qualifications
*High school diploma
*Active Substitute License
*Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
*Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
*Ability to follow instructional plans provided by the Supplemental ELA Teacher.
*Knowledge of phonics, phonemic awareness, and reading comprehension strategies (preferred, training may be provided).
Work Environment
This position works in a classroom setting under the direct supervision of the Supplemental ELA Teacher.
The paraprofessional collaborates closely with teaching staff to provide consistent literacy support for students.
Evaluation:
Performance in this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provision of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of support staff.
