Material Handler (General Laborer)
Electro-Mechanical Industries, Inc. (EMI), a family-owned custom manufacturer located in the western suburbs of Minneapolis. EMI has 45 years of steady growth and product innovation, provides products and services to commercial customers in the Midwest Region.
The Material Handler (General Laborer) team member will support operations by supporting production team by parting, staging and moving manufactured parts. The General Laborer will relocate products and raw materials, such as manufactured steel parts, bus bar, etc. within the production facility using forklifts or pallet jacks. This laborer will handle recordkeeping responsibilities related to inventory, product locations and labeling to improve productions floors organization. The General laborer uses available resources to perform assigned duties in a safe and efficient manner.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
· Accepting and inspecting products, manufactured parts, materials and other items produced and/or delivered to the business.
· Part, sort, arrange and move fabricated custom metal parts produced at mechanical equipment such as Lasers, Automated punches, Press Brake, shears, and other fabrication equipment to the proper locations on assembly line and storage.
· Refer to parts ID tags, label and improve storing/locations of materials.
· Utilizes prints to assure proper dimensions and tolerances are achieved. Verifying proper dimensions, tolerances and quantities of parts shipping out for supplier processes as well as received vendor produced parts.
· Works closely with other team members and the department lead and/or Operations Manager.
· Open bundles of materials with cutters, sorting stock, responsible for measuring/confirming size, type and thickness.
- Completing documentation accurately and promptly, including work and shipping orders
- Performing inventory control activities, such as regular counts and order fulfillment
- Packaging, crating, and loading finished parts or products for shipping.
- Resolving conflicts in item locations, damaged goods or missing packages
· Must be able to measure dimensions and compare them to drawing specifications.
· Maintains a safe and clean working environment and adheres to procedures, codes and safety regulations.
· Other duties as assigned to meet customer requirements including light mechanical assembly

· Strong mechanical and mathematical aptitude as well as being able to complete/pass a basic mathematics test.
· Ability to effectively communicate well with others in English, both verbally and in writing.
Education and Experience:
· High school diploma/GED or more is preferred - equivalent experience will be considered.
· Forklift experience required.
Physical Demands:
· This position is required to routinely lift up to 50 lbs., repeatedly throughout the shift.
· Stand for extended periods of time.
· Continually perform a wide range of physical activities which include pulling, reaching, bending over, crouching, lifting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling.
Personal Protective Equipment:
· Steel toe shoes, safety glasses, and gloves.
Work Environment:
· Work is performed in a custom manufacturing production facility with typical manufacturing noise.
· Exposed to shop elements such as noise and dust.
Work Hours:
Typical hours for this position are Monday – Friday from 6 am to 2:30 pm. However, to complete job duties and deadlines, this position may request overtime and/or working at non-regular hours as needed.
Salary and Benefits: The base salary range for this position is $20-$22 per hour.
