What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Manager position at Electrical Construction Company?
Comet Electric is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to support our Commercial & Industrial and Transportation divisions. This position plays a critical role in implementing and maintaining our company safety program, supporting field operations, and ensuring compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
The Safety Manager will work directly with field leadership, project management, and executive leadership to promote a strong safety culture across all projects. This position will be based out of LAX, and night shifts may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct jobsite safety inspections and audits across multiple construction projects
- Lead incident and near-miss investigations and prepare detailed reports with corrective actions
- Assist in the development and implementation of Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Pre-Task Plans
- Provide safety training for field employees including fall protection, excavation safety, aerial lifts, forklifts, and electrical safety
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and company safety policies
- Monitor and maintain project safety documentation including OSHA logs, inspections, and safety reports
- Support project teams with hazard identification and risk mitigation strategies
- Participate in safety committee meetings and company safety initiatives
- Assist with safety orientations for new employees
- Coordinate with field supervision to maintain safe work practices on all job sites
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience (electrical construction preferred)
- Strong knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations
- Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis
- Ability to communicate effectively with field personnel and management
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment and visit multiple job sites
Preferred Certifications:
- CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician)
- OSHA 500 – Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for Construction
- OSHA 510 – Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry
- CPR / First Aid / AED Trainer
- NFPA 70E Training
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to travel to job sites throughout Southern California
- Ability to walk job sites and access active construction areas
- Ability to work day and night shifts as required by project schedules
