About The Position

The Senior Application Engineer is the primary technical liaison between ECI and our customers.  The position is responsible for the design and development of new and maintenance of existing wire harnesses and associated components.  He/she must be able to develop and review specifications, design new products, support existing products.  Coordinate the introduction of new products or change control. When required, he/she must be able to advise the manufacturing organization of the customer’s expectations for proper design and quality level of products and remain involved until the process is complete.

 

In this role, you will:

Design & Product Development

  • Conduct investigations for new programs/models and assist with defining and planning design projects and options.
  • Review and analyze new components or technologies as they apply to harness design.
  • Design wire harnesses, assemblies, and components to customer criteria utilizing ECI & Customer’s design guidelines, procedures, and specifications.
  • Co-ordinate with Product Designer (CAD) to develop CAD models and drawings.  Understand the customer sub-system packaging requirements and constraints to properly route/package the harness.
  • Develop DFMEA’s and DVP (test plans) and effectively utilize information to create and validate robust product designs
  • Communicate preliminary designs, drawings, and sample requirements.  Coordinate delivery of samples to the customer.
  • Lead/Participate in Design Reviews & Project Reviews with ECI and customer representatives.  Keep design and development progress on track according to schedule.
  • Technical resource for wire harness application design knowledge.
  • Train and mentor less experienced Engineers and support decision making process.
  • Use expertise to identify and apply best practices, technologies, and processes.

 

VA/VE Support

  • Generate cost savings ideas and attend VA/VE workshops as required.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities through product redesign or alternate materials.

New Product Introduction

  • Primary ECI interface for technical issues and program deliverables.
  • Assist in defining and maintaining customer project schedules as tasks relate to ECI activities.
  • Assist in developing internal timelines to meet customer program timing requirements.
  • Provide assistance at customer locations for Pre-Production runs and problem solving.

General

  • Support ECI departments (i.e. Sales, Quoting, NPI, Operations, and Advance Purchasing) by addressing technical questions through assessments, expertise, experience, research and knowledge.
  • Perform all activities in accordance with customer, agency (UL, CSA, etc) and ISO / QS requirements.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple project events and changing priorities.
  • Exceptional understanding of design and drafting principals, procedures and specifications relating to harnesses, cables and electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Strong collaborative skills to work within a global team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned by the department manager.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar education required.
  • Experience in electrical or wire harness field, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to adapt and learn quickly
  • Ability to manage multiple project events and changing priorities.
  • Ability to understand schematic and wiring diagrams.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Good understanding of design and drafting principals, procedures and specifications relating to harnesses, cables and electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to formulate and implement solutions to design problems.
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Willing to voice concerns and take appropriate action in a timely fashion over any perceived product risk.
  • Ability to travel to customers, suppliers and manufacturing locations.
