Shop Technician

Job Type: Full Time, Hourly

Location: Onsite 4280 E 14th Street, Des Moines, IA 50313.

Expected Hours of Work: Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30AM to 5PM.

Reports to: Vice President of Service Operations

Job Summary

The Shop Technician is responsible for performing in-house inspection, repair, maintenance, testing and warranty evaluation of pumps and other fluid handling equipment for municipal and industrial customers. This role supports the service department by diagnosing mechanical issues, disassembling, and rebuilding pumps, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring all repairs meet quality and safety standards. The Shop Technician also works closely with service support team to provide reliable equipment performance and timely service solutions.

Essential Functions

• Perform highly diversified duties to install and repair fluid handling products
• Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of pumping equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of equipment
• Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities
• Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic
• Read and interpret pump manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service
• Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments
• Perform regular preventive maintenance on pumps and equipment
• Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties
• Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas

Work Environment

This job operates in a typical shop environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. There is also frequent use of power tools including saws and forklift. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or head. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee will be required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects ups to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Required Education And Experience

High School diploma or equivalent with three (3) years of mechanical experience

Preferred Education And Experience

Post-Secondary or Trade School degree in a Mechanical or Water Environment Technology program; or three to five (3 to 5) years of mechanical experience
