The Eldridge Hotel is hiring experienced bartenders for our Jayhawker Bar! A bartender mixes and serves alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks along with food to patrons of the bar by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned by the Bar or Restaurant Manager.
a. Ensure security and confidentiality of guest and hotel information.
b. Suggestively sell menu items, beverages, and wines.
c. Work without direct supervision.
d. Promote specials and maintain complete knowledge of:
- liquor brands, beers and non-alcoholic selections available
- characteristics and descriptions of every wine/champagne by the glass and major wines on the wine list
- designated glassware and garnish for drinks, bar menu items, preparation, method/time, ingredients, sauces, portion sizes, garnishes, presentations and prices
- bar layouts, table/seat/station numbers, proper table set up, room capacity, hours of operation, and price range.

- correct maintenance and use of equipment
- all department policies

f. Hotel services/feature and local attractions/activities
g. Maintain complete knowledge and strictly abide by state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated people, and legal serving times.
h. Monitor problems with intoxicated guests and/or altercations and relay to the manager on duty.
i. Check the storage area for proper supplies, organization, and cleanliness. Correct any problems.
j. Check quality and amounts of garnishes ensuring quality.
k. Check bar set ups for cleanliness, neatness, and agreement to departmental standards.
l. Check all aspects of the bar environment ensuring compliance with standards of cleanliness and order.
m. Adhere to grooming and attire policy as stated in the employee manual
n. Ensure that the bar is properly stocked prior to shift beginning.
o. Anticipate guests’ needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day. Always promote positive guest relations.
p. Monitor guest complaints and notify management of any situations ensuring guest satisfaction.
Qualifications:Bartender Qualifications:
- Applicant must be at least 21 years of age to apply
- Applicant must have prior bar experience to be considered for this role
- Applicant must display customer service proficiencies in line with a bartending role. These include but are not limited to:
- Good communication skills - necessary for interactions with customers, guests, co-workers, and managers
- Ability to multitask - when dealing with multiple drink orders during a rush, all while keeping the bar clean and orderly
- Time management - bartenders must be able to make drinks quickly and skillfully to keep up a fast-paced restaurant environment
- Problem solving - for when issues inevitably arise in customer service situations, one must have good problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Good memory - useful for various reasons, from memorizing drink recipes, to recalling the faces and names of regulars
- Creativity - when mixing drinks, creativity and imagination is a must!
