POSITION OVERVIEW:
Elder Law & Advocacy, a small non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, is seeking an experienced Accounting Director to manage accounting, financial reporting and HR. This hybrid remote/on-site role is a key member of the leadership team and will work closely with the Executive team.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
- Maintain accounting records and books of accounts of all Elder Law & Advocacy (ELA) funds and all programs requiring separate reports or claims.
- Coordinate all audit activity.
- Prepare and present monthly and year-to-date financials to the Finance Committee, and Board, as necessary.
- Manage and track performance of investments.
- Maintain internal controls, safeguard receipt of revenues, and manage fixed assets.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts and monthly claims.
- Manage employee benefits package; work as liaison with benefit providers and assist employees with enrolling and making changes to their benefits.
- Process payroll using online payroll software and remit 401k contributions on a timely basis.
- Oversee HR administration, including staff onboarding, benefits, and ensure compliance with CA labor laws.
- Update and maintain the online HRIS system.
- Personnel management assistance.
- Workers Comp and Leaves of Absence management.
- Oversee all financial, program, and grants accounting.
- Coordinate annual budgeting and planning process.
- Process bills and obligations, and obtain approval to pay.
- Prepare bank reconciliations for all bank accounts.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly claim requests for all programs, as required.
- Prepare closeout reports for all programs, as required.
- Prepare reports or questionnaires requested by insurance companies.
- Assist the Executive Director and Deputy Director with preparing grant proposals and reports.
- Prepare program budgets for grant related letters and proposals.
- Review agency policies and fiscal compliance.
- Work with the Executive Director and/or Board Finance Committee to design the company's financial policies, rules and regulations, and see that all departments adhere to policies.
- Oversee compliance of government contracts and grants, including invoicing, tracking, and calculation of overhead and staff rates.
- Handle annual insurance renewal and ensure proper coverage is maintained.
- Prepare and file all necessary government reports and submissions.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Five years experience in a supervisory accounting role.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent.
- Understanding of, and experience with, and nonprofit accounting.
- Proficient using automated accounting systems (QBO).
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365.
- Previous payroll and HR experience.
