The Opportunity
We are seeking a Controller to join our growing team. This role is based in the Tri-State Area (New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut) and reports directly to the CFO. Hybrid flexibility may be considered following an initial on-site period.
This is a critical leadership role within the organization, responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls. The ideal candidate is a licensed CPA with deep healthcare accounting experience and strong expertise in NetSuite ERP.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Responsible for the timely closing of month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring completeness and accuracy across all entities.
- Prepare consolidated financial reporting for executive leadership, board members, and external stakeholders
- Report, analyze, and interpret financial and operating data for management
- Responsible for research and adoption of accounting standards and preparation of written policies and memos for the organization
Project Management & Strategic Execution
- Lead and manage cross-functional finance and systems projects (e.g., ERP optimization, process redesign, automation initiatives)
- Own end-to-end project lifecycles: planning, stakeholder alignment, execution, and delivery
- Drive NetSuite implementations, upgrades, and integrations across departments
- Establish timelines, KPIs, and accountability structures to ensure project success
- Partner with leadership to execute scaling initiatives across multi-state operations
- Implement structured workflows and SOPs to support operational efficiency
NetSuite ERP Administration
- Serve as the primary administrator and subject matter expert for NetSuite across all accounting modules (GL, AP, AR, Fixed Assets, Intercompany)
- Lead system optimization efforts, including workflow automation, reporting, and configuration
- Partner cross-functionally on integrations, data integrity, and process improvements
- Train and support accounting staff on system usage and best practices
Compliance, Audit & Internal Controls
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations relevant to eldercare and healthcare organizations
- Lead the annual external audit process and act as primary liaison with auditors
- Design, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial accuracy
Compliance & Planning
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors and ensure alignment with financial reporting
- Ensure compliance with multi-state tax obligations
- Identify tax-efficient strategies in partnership with CFO and leadership
- Maintain current knowledge of evolving tax regulations impacting the business
Team Leadership & Remote Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a distributed accounting team across the U.S. and offshore (Philippines)
- Establish clear performance expectations, communication rhythms, and accountability structures
- Build scalable processes, SOPs, and training materials to support remote execution
- Partner with HR on hiring, onboarding, and performance management
Automation, AI & Process Innovation
- Identify and implement automation opportunities across accounting workflows
- Leverage NetSuite and AI-powered tools to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and control
- Evaluate and deploy third-party solutions to improve reporting and anomaly detection
- Build scalable systems to support growth without proportional headcount increases
- Continuously improve processes with a digital-first mindset
Qualifications
Required
- Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s preferred)
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3 years in a Controller or senior leadership role
- Demonstrated hands-on expertise with NetSuite ERP (administration and end-to-end financial user experience); Professional level certifications for Accounting, Administrator, and/or SuiteFoundation preferred.
- Deep knowledge of GAAP; healthcare accounting experience strongly preferred
- Based in and able to commute within the NY / NJ / CT tri-state area
Preferred
- Experience with multi-state tax compliance
- Experience managing offshore or remote accounting teams
- Background in eldercare, home health, senior living, or healthcare sectors
- Experience with automation tools, AI workflows, or financial system optimization
- Experience with multi-entity consolidation and/or M&A environments
- Strong Excel and reporting/BI tool proficiency
