Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Shop Mechanic / Heavy Equipment Technician to maintain and repair our fleet of foundation drill rigs, skid steers, and DOT-regulated trucks and trailers. This position is approximately 90% shop work and 10% field service, providing a consistent shop environment with occasional on-site repairs when needed.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys diagnosing complex mechanical problems, takes pride in quality workmanship, and wants the freedom to perform repairs correctly rather than simply as fast as possible.

Responsibilities

Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy construction drills and commercial vehicles.

Perform preventative maintenance to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.

Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, drivetrains, and transmissions.

Read and interpret hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical schematics.

Repair and rebuild gearboxes, bearings, seals, shafts, pumps, cylinders, and other major components.

Perform MIG, stick, and general fabrication and welding repairs.

Maintain and repair DOT-regulated tractors and trailers.

Perform occasional field repairs and service calls.

Maintain an organized shop and manage inventory of parts, consumables, and shop supplies.

Coordinate with vendors to ensure adequate inventory of commonly used repair parts.

Communicate repair status and equipment needs with management and operators.

Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required

Diesel technology training or equivalent experience

DOT inspection certification (preferred)

Brake certification (preferred)

CDL (preferred)

Experience

Qualified candidates should have experience with:

Diesel engine diagnostics and repair

Hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting

Transmission and drivetrain repairs

Heavy equipment maintenance

Commercial truck and trailer maintenance

Reading mechanical, electrical and hydraulic schematics

MIG and stick welding

Heavy steel fabrication

Operation of a mechanic's service truck and crane
