Job Summary
This is an experienced level position where the incumbent must possess an advanced level of quality engineering knowledge. Tasks at this level are in areas where technical requirements are of substantial complexity. The primary role of the Principal Quality Engineer will be to identify, implement and measure the success of a variety of Black Belt projects that are designed to improve engineering processes.
Responsibilities And Tasks
- Identify opportunities and innovations to drive continuous improvement
- Provide black belt-initiated project support
- Provide Six Sigma support to the engineering group, including data analysis and facilitation of DMAIC
- Provide quality assurance direction on engineering projects and support for design controls
- Ensure the process of verification and validation of engineering projects
- Participate in the Technical Process by defining and executing risk assessment
- Participate in the Management Requirements Process by overseeing requirements flow down effectiveness and coverage
- Lead and facilitate the Causal Analysis and Resolution Process
- Facilitate Common Failure Review Board
- Assist in the Risk Management and Opportunities Process
- Identify, document and facilitate the development of action plans for program risks
- Measure program performance against objectives, commitments to customers and program requirements, reporting monthly results to senior management
- Ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems, Policies and Certifications
- Partner with Program Manager to measure and report on the health of the programs through each stage gate phase
- Coordinate and manage change requests within the engineering function
- Collect and analyze measurements associated with observations, evaluations, assessments, and causal analysis and resolution process
- Facilitate, coordinate and execute a close program applying lessons learned process
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 8 years’ related experience in Quality and/or Engineering at a systems level
- Requires hands-on product engineering experience with strong leadership skills and proven experience facilitating Six Sigma projects and mentoring teams on the use of Six Sigma tools
- Must possess solid project management skills, along with interpersonal finesse including negotiation, influencing and facilitative skills
- Must have experience with hardware/software test verification and validation
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification highly desirable
