Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab is looking for a full-time Life Enrichment Assistant to join our dedicated team! Benefits include:

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Life Enrichment Director, the Life Enrichment Assistant will implement therapeutic activity programs on a daily basis to meet the individual resident's needs and interests.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Including the following, other duties may be assigned.

 

  1. Carry out recreational/group activities as scheduled, including social, sensory stimulation, spiritual and therapeutic.
  2. Attend outings with residents outside of the facility.
  3. Maintain a safe environment during activity programs.
  4. Individual resident visits as assigned, conducting conversational, sensory stimulation and task-oriented activities.
  5. Assist the nursing and dietary staff with the coordination of the meal service (breakfast, lunch and dinner) in the neighborhoods.
    1. Coordinate resident’s seating chart for meals.
    2. Coordinate resident’s tray arrangements in dietary carts for meals.
    3. Coordinate the distribution of trays to residents requiring setup and or cues and supervision.
    4. Feed and or assist residents during meals after successful completion of the Feeding Assistant Program.
    5. Coordinate the collection of resident trays at the completion of the meal.
      1. Consolidating resident trays into large dietary carts and pushing towards service elevator.
    1. Assist with inventory and storage of neighborhood food items.
  1. Oversee and assist with training volunteers assigned to Activity department.
  2. Report any activities, observations, or unusual findings regarding residents promptly to the licensed nurses or unit manager.
  3. Follow established infection control procedures including cleaning equipment after use and adhering to handwashing procedures.
  4. Attend and actively participate in scheduled in-service programs, departmental and committee meetings as assigned.  Complete Relias training as assigned.
  5. Complete all necessary record keeping/documentation such as attendance, food and fluid intake sheets, sensory stimulation response in Care tracker.
  6. Follow applicable departmental and facility policies.
  7. Follow state and federal regulations as required.
  8. Consult with Life Enrichment Director concerning improvements in neighborhood programming.
  9. Communicates resident preferences to Life Enrichment Unit Coordinator and Life Enrichment Director.
  10. Maintain a safe, clutter-free environment.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Training provided.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to residents and other employees of the organization.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Successfully complete Safe Food Handling Part I and II during orientation process.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Good interpersonal skills, shows sensitivity to the needs, interests, and abilities of the residents.

Conforms to established work hours and maintains an acceptable work attendance record.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to feel and manipulate objects, tools, or controls; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and taste and smell.

 

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, push a resident in a wheelchair up to 250 pounds.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee may occasionally work outside weather.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
