Job Summary

Job Summary

The Independence Facilitator reports to the Special Education Coordinator and Resource Teacher and supports students with mild to moderate disabilities in accessing instruction, developing independence, building self-advocacy skills, and successfully participating in the general education environment. The primary goal of this position is not to create dependence on adult support, but to help students develop the academic, social-emotional, organizational, and self-management skills necessary to become increasingly independent learners. The Independence Facilitator works collaboratively with special education staff, general education teachers, service providers, and families to ensure students receive appropriate support while maintaining high expectations and dignity. We believe every child is capable of growth, independence, and meaningful participation in their learning community. The role of the Independence Facilitator is to provide support in ways that build confidence, competence, and self-advocacy while ensuring students remain active participants in their own success. The ultimate measure of success for an Independence Facilitator is not how much support a student receives, but how much independence the student gains.
