As a member of the El Puente team, the Assistant Program Director is expected to embody and uphold our mission, philosophy, and 12 Principles in both program design and daily practice.
Position Overview:
El Puente is seeking a collaborative, organized, and community centered Assistant Program Director to support the leadership and daily operations of the Cornerstone Program.
This role is both hands-on and developmental, supporting program implementation, staff growth, and operational systems that ensure a high-quality, youth-centered experience.
The Assistant Program Director works closely with the Program Director and site team to help build a structured, supportive, and joyful environment where youth and community members can thrive.
The ideal candidate is someone who values teamwork, structure, and relationship-building, and understands that strong operations and staff support are essential to meaningful youth development and movement-building work.
What You’ll Do:
- Support the day-to-day operations of the Cornerstone Program, ensuring programming runs smoothly, safely, and on schedule
- Assist in the planning and execution of workshops, events, and enrichment activities aligned with El Puente’s mission and program goals
- Coordinate logistics for programming, including materials, schedules, and space usage
- Help maintain a structured and engaging environment that supports youth development and participation
- Support the supervision and day-to-day guidance of program staff, interns, and volunteers
- Contribute to building a team culture rooted in collaboration, accountability, and care
- Model strong communication and problem-solving within a fast-paced team environment
- Support attendance tracking, data entry, and participant documentation in alignment with organizational and DYCD expectations
- Assist with monitoring program outcomes and supporting evaluation efforts
- Help ensure compliance with internal policies, safety procedures, and funder requirements
- Contribute to timely and accurate reporting processes
- Build positive relationships with youth participants, supporting their engagement, growth, and leadership development
- Assist in maintaining strong communication with families and community members
- Support outreach efforts and help strengthen connections with local partners and stakeholders
- Represent the program in a way that reflects El Puente’s values and commitment to community
- Assist with maintaining organized systems for schedules, supplies, and program materials
- Support daily site operations, including opening/closing procedures and general coordination
- Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to evolving program needs
Required Qualifications:
- This role is part of a School-Age Child Care (SACC) licensed program, and the selected candidate must meet all qualifications required for approval as an Assistant Director; El Puente is committed to supporting staff growth while ensuring compliance with all applicable licensing requirements.
- Experience in youth development, education, community organizing, or enrichment programming
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with daily operational execution
- Strong communication, writing, and relationship-building skills
- Commitment to social justice, community empowerment, and youth leadership
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
Schedule:
This is a full-time position based in Brooklyn, NY. Generally Monday through Friday, 10:00AM – 6:00 PM, with occasional adjustments based on program needs.
