Production Supervisor
Location: Waltham, MA (In-Person)
Reports To: VP of Manufacturing and Food
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Production Supervisor to join our manufacturing team in Waltham, MA. Reporting directly to the VP of Manufacturing and Food, this individual will play a central role in day-to-day factory operations — from production planning and workforce coordination to quality oversight and administrative compliance. The ideal candidate brings hands-on food manufacturing experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to communicate fluently in both English and Spanish to support our diverse workforce.
El Nacho is a tortilla chip company. We see an opportunity to share with others a better chip. We built our own factory so that we can make the exact chip we want to share. We’re focused on sourcing the best ingredients using regeneratively farmed corn and avocado oil and organic spices. We’re a small close-knit team with deep experience in the food industry. We have ambitious dreams for El Nacho and we’re looking to build our team with others who share our passion and vision.
This is an in-person full time role based in the Boston area.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Oversight
· Develop and manage daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules to meet customer demand and operational targets.
· Coordinate raw material availability with procurement to ensure uninterrupted production runs.
· Monitor production lines in real time, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks or equipment issues.
· Collaborate with the VP of Manufacturing and Food to align production capacity with sales forecasts.
Performance & Quality Management
· Track and report on key performance indicators including throughput, yield, and waste reduction.
· Enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety protocols, including HACCP and SQF/BRC standards where applicable.
· Lead root cause analysis and corrective action processes for quality deviations or production non-conformances.
· Drive a culture of continuous improvement
· Conduct regular line audits and product inspections to maintain quality and consistency.
Team Leadership & Communication
· Directly supervise production floor staff, providing coaching, performance feedback, and daily direction.
· Lead shift handoff meetings and daily stand-ups, communicating priorities and performance results clearly.
· Serve as a bilingual resource (English/Spanish) for team members, ensuring instructions, safety policies, and expectations are understood by all.
· Lead recruiting, onboarding, and performance management of production employees.
Administrative & Compliance Duties
· Print and process bills of lading and shipping documentation accurately and on time.
· Enter production run data, lot traceability records, and downtime logs into ERP or production management software.
· Maintain accurate inventory records for work-in-progress and finished goods.
· Ensure documentation is complete and audit-ready for internal and third-party food safety inspections.
· Complete regulatory and compliance paperwork as required by local, state, and federal guidelines.
Qualifications
Required
· 3 years of supervisory experience in a food manufacturing or food processing environment.
· Fluency in both English and Spanish (written and spoken) — required to effectively support a bilingual workforce.
· Demonstrated experience with production planning, scheduling, and KPI management.
· Working knowledge of GMP, HACCP, and food safety compliance requirements.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience entering data into production or ERP software.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly for administrative and documentation tasks.
· Proven ability to lead, motivate, and hold accountable a diverse team of production employees.
Preferred Experience
· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Operations Management, or a related field.
· Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or 5S programs.
· Familiarity with SQF, BRC, or other third-party food safety certification schemes.
· Experience using ERP systems (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, Infor) for production data entry and reporting.
· PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) certification is a plus.
What Success Looks Like
In the first 6–12 months, the Production Supervisor will:
· Build trusted relationships with the production team, cross-functional partners, and leadership.
· Establish consistent production scheduling and KPI reporting routines that give leadership clear visibility into performance.
· Strengthen food safety compliance, documentation practices, and audit readiness on the floor.
· Identify and drive opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and elevate product quality.
· Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and pride in the product on the production floor.
Compensation
- $70,000 – $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Includes comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, and opportunities for advancement within a growing manufacturing operation.
