Capital Projects Management division is responsible for the planning, design, and management of various construction projects such as Transportation projects (highways, bridges, streets & alleys) Wastewater projects (rivers, major drainage outfalls, storm sewers, sanitary sewers and lift stations) and New Facility Construction (Justice Center, Denver Union Station, Public Works Operations Campus). This division manages many consultant agreements for professional services we also manage bidding and construction of many Parks and Recreation projects each year.
Public Works services have earned Denver an international reputation as a beautiful city. This position supports sanitary and storm sewer projects.
About Our Job
Baccalaureate Degree in Civil Engineering.
Two years of professional licensed engineering experience in design and project management of storm and sanitary sewer construction projects. Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
Additional post-graduate education in Civil Engineering may substitute for one year of the minimum experience requirement.
Also requires a valid driver’s license and registration as a Professional Engineer by the Colorado State Board of Registration at time of application. Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado registration by completion of probation.

About Our Job
- Designs standard Capital Improvement Program sanitary and storm sewer projects; performs problem analysis, drafts plan and profile sheets, designs selected solutions, prepares construction cost analysis, develops project specifications and construction contracts and assists with resolution of field related issues.
- Performs project management for storm and sanitary sewer projects as well as annual programs (i.e. preconstruction meetings, field meetings, approval of shop drawings and engineering submittals, coordination and scheduling with various utility companies, negotiation and preparation of change orders, monthly progress payments, daily field mitigation, direct interaction with Contractors and their sub tiers, etc.),
- Monitors the work performed by consultants on special projects and studies to include: the preparation of a scope of work, review of proposals by consultants, administration of the work, timely review of submitted reports and coordination with other city agencies.
- Leads and supervises a small team of drafting personnel, to include drafting scheduling for Wastewater Capital Projects and associated staff assignments.
- Responds to inquiries from citizens, elected officials, other city agencies and stakeholders regarding wastewater project issues.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent people-skills and the ability to communicate effectively, empathetically and professionally in a timely manner with the public, other agencies, and elected officials and their aides.
- Knowledge and skills with software applications such as Autocad, Microsoft Office, ArcMap, and GIS.
- Capability to read, understand and interpret engineering plans, GIS data, and perform basic hydrology calculations.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to rapidly changing priorities and issues.
