What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at El Centro Family Health?
Position Overview:
Under the supervisor of the Clinic Manager/or Regional Administrator, the Custodian maintains the workplace by providing a safe and comfortable environment of care by performing routine janitorial services and/or minor repairs of the assigned location. The Custodians' primary job is to keep the office and clinic building clean and functioning properly.
What You Will Do:
- Sweep and/or vacuum public rooms, offices, training rooms. Mop all areas that require cleaning.
- Scrub clean and disinfect bathroom, kitchen and any public area.
- Disinfect sinks and operatories, emptying and cleaning trash receptacles, and washing or vacuuming all chairs.
- Ensure that dispensers are full at all times, i.e., tissue paper, soap dispenser, paper towels.
- Dust and disinfect filing cabinets, counters and desktops as requested.
- Dust and wipe windowsills, door frames, and light fixtures; wash windows monthly and remove interior/exterior cobwebs.
- Disinfect high-touch surfaces like doorknobs and ensure all cleaning is performed according to chemical safety guidelines.
- Maintain lighting by replacing bulbs or submitting requisitions and perform basic plumbing tasks like unclogging sinks and commodes.
- Manage the locking/unlocking of buildings, check for unauthorized occupants, and ensure all windows, doors, and lights are secured when not in use.
- Maintain the exterior appearance by removing trash and debris from parking lots and grounds, including weed control.
- Clear snow, ice, and debris from sidewalks and stairs (withing 16 feet of buildings) using hand tools or small power equipment.
- Apply salt to walkways and parking lots during winter; deploy caution signs or barricades and report unsafe conditions to supervisors.
- Assist with the physical setup and breakdown of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, and special events.
- Provide immediate assistance during emergencies and attend all scheduled safety or departmental meetings.
- Participate in required coursework covering modern cleaning techniques, new product use, First Aid/CPR, and workplace relationship building.
- Adherence to customer service by exhibiting behavior and actions which create a high level of confidence towards patients, customers and staff relations, which reflects respect for patient's and customers' rights, needs and confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Six months experience in custodial work.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to balance, bend, lift, carry, and pull up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods, typically longer than four hours.
- Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, or as needed.
- Manual dexterity and ability to use hands and fingers for feeling, grasping, and operating office equipment.
- Adequate hearing ability for communication and monitoring office environments.
- Good vision for reading documents, operating office equipment, and observing surroundings.
- Capability to stoop, crouch, crawl, or kneel as necessary for office tasks.
- Ability to talk clearly and effectively for communication.
- Ability to walk and move around the office environment.
- This position involves possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials.
